texting and driving - getting worse

Thu Mar 15, 2012 7:34 pm

I do a lot of miles in my job and like most people I have gotten used to seeing people brazenly nattering away on the phone while at the wheel. Texting has definately started getting worse though.

Today I saw the worst one ever. On the M4 this afternoon, a bloke in his late 20/30s driving a black VW Golf texting all the way from Tredegar Park till at least Cardiff West (where I left) in the middle lane of the motorway! That's the best part of 20 miles!

If I'd had someone else in the car with me other than my toddler I would have filmed the selfish b*stard and sent it to the old bill.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not perfect, I make the odd mistake just like everybody does, but the standard of driving, particularly on the motorways is horrendous. The aggressive, selfish, tail-gating large saloon drivers are easily the worst of the lot.

But texting (or going on facebook like some brain dead woman got caught for recently) and driving is inexcusable. As far as I'm concerned it should result in an instant 12 month ban.

It's just selfish and lazy, and is a indicative of people's attitude nowadays.

People parking in disabled parking bays.

Driving as close as possible so as not to allow traffic to merge in turn.

Queuing across T-junctions when someone is waiting to pull out of one.

Stopping at the entrance of the petrol station forecourt and making everyone queue behind until the their choice of pump becomes available, even though the pumps others may want want are free.

Bombing towards those 'give way to oncoming traffic' calming things just to make it difficult for anyone to get through.

Speeding up on purpose when they see someone pull out of a junction or onto a roundabout and then theatrically braking at the last minute to make it look as if you pulled out in front of them.

etc etc

1. I hate people in cars which cost more than 30k but won't pay 20 quid for a hands free headset.

2. People who insist on parking their car as close to the cashpoint as possible, blocking the road for other people, EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE IN MORRISONS CAR PARK AND THERE IS A PERFECTLY GOOD PARKING SPACE 20 YARDS AWAY!

Rant over - feel better for that! :old:

Bang on... Although sod the 30k limit for these arseholes... anyone with a car costing only a couple of thousand has NO excuse for not having a hands free kit..... My old banger is cost me less than a grand, but I could afford the kit, and would never dream of answering the phone unless it was connected...

I saw some lunatics on their phones coming back from a school the other day, it does really get to me.

I made a decision a long time ago, to never answer my phone or read my text while driving, If I am expecting an important call or message, I can easily pull over. I never want to find myself in a situation where I caused an accident and hurt someone or worse, because I wasn't respecting other road users. People can be as smart as they like, until the knock on the door is regarding their loved one. God forbid it happens to anyone. ATB. Reeco
