MARSHALL ROLLING THE BALL OUT TO HUDSON

Wed Mar 14, 2012 1:00 pm

That was the major problem last night,

Hudson cannot pass the ball for shit and endlessly gave the ball away in trying to do so and immediately put our side under pressure, so why we insist on letting Marshall constantly roll it out to Hudson when its plain to see that he is incapable of passing to one of our players consistently is beyond me. :?

His passing is more accurate than Gerrard's for my money. His long-distance passing that is.

I've long complained that Marshall, when kicking it in open play (from the ground or out of his hands), often just aims it hopelessly long in the hope that someone will get on the end of it. I've thought that he could at least try and play it short so that we can actually keep the ball.

I haven't got a problem with it to be honest IF our midfield players come towards Hudson and give him options. That's what he needs and without those options he resorts to lumping the ball forward aimlessly.

The alternative is for Marshall to kick it long to our short arse strike force and the ball inevitably makes it's way straight back to us.

Last night both Hudson and Mcnaughton, two of our very worst distributors of the ball, saw far too much of it.

He did it at Bristol city. Mcnaughton Hudson and marshalls distribution puts us under unnecessary pressure.
I know we've a small squad so why not freshen up with what we have.

Give heaton, Blake and Gerrard a go

Hudson is actually a very good passer, hence why Malky wants him to be the one passing it from the back! The problem last night was the lack of movement in front of him! Often he had no options and had no choice but to pump it down the channels!

Its the lack of options, everyone and their dog is waiting for Whitts to pick it up from the centre halfs. Stop Whitts stop Cardiff.

If you look early season we were playing higher up the field and Whitts was passing to kenny in space. Championship teams have a lot of clever people with laptops with all sorts of software analysing us. I believe as no one had our number we looked top notch, now everyone knows to jam the middle and press Whitts.

The only team that hasn't done that recently were liverpool as they are premier league jammed with internationals and should have imposed themselves onto us due to their "class".

One of Marshall's problems is that he is very slow on the counter attack, never kicks or throws it out quick :?

Because none of our players give him the option to do so.

Remember when he, errm, kicked it out quickly as Miller was on the shoulders of the defender, Miller heading over the keeper earlier this season?

Easier to blame Marshall than the root problem.

McNaughton, Darcy, Gerrard and Hudson are all poor passers IMO and I believe that other than Turner, who has been outstanding overall for us and possibly Taylor, none of those I've named and any of our other defending options are good enough to compete for us at the next level and most are struggling for consistency now!

I also think that Marshall's early season high standards have fallen away and Heaton should be given a run out!

As some people have already touched upon, this is happening because the opposition are putting pressure on us to do so. They know Hudson just gives it away every time so what do they do? Give Hudson all the space in the world, stick an extra man on Whittingham and mark the other defenders tightly. It just plays into their hands. As nerd also touched upon, it is down to our players to lose their markers and create space rather than just sitting there happy that Hudson will get it.

Totally disagree with the OP, we actually need to roll the ball out to the centre backs when they split far more. This is what we were doing in the first half of the season and it worked well because Whitts was coming deep for it and the ball would end up being passed through midfield. These days when it's rolled to Hudson or Turner, they seem to look for a diag or even worse, a straight ball with a straight run. We need to go back to basics and when the centre backs split, make sure that Whitts or even Lawrence now comes to collect and play through Gunnar or Whitts/Lawrence, whoever is on. That was we can start playing through balls for Kenny that he thrives on rather than these hoof balls we have been playing.
