ah the good old days. arrived from the midlands on train - found about 50 city fans and escorted to ground. few burnley in a pub charged us lol. i think we won 2-1 and seem to rememember our second goal was late on and looked 10 yards offside (was it kevin bartlett?). Also remmeber the stone chucking round back of stand at half time!

Got escorted across the pitch at the end of the game, because some of us weren't in the City end.

We won 2-1. I'm pretty sure Alan Curtis scored a cracker that day from about 25 yards out.
If I remember correctly, we were already promoted and we messed up Burnley's chances by beating them that day, hence their pitch invasions and wanting to get at us!

Greeted by Pompey's finest on both saturday night and sunday morning afterwards in Blackpool .Great turnout from Holyhead and Bangor Bluebirds on the day .Ginger R.I.P From Port Talbot drove the van ,all crammed into the back after a night in Pharoahs nightclub on Aberavon beach ....what a trip

Never seen so many transit vans at an away game as that.

never will ever again either.

Got a lift with some Burnley lads from Manchester ( I was staying with my mate ) - never seen anything like it driving through Burnley - it was like Night of the Livind Dead , blood and sparked out Burnley fans everywhere - it was chaos.
One thing that has made me hate Burnley ever since is that over the turnstiles ( most of them ) someone had written ABERFAN - not banter, just sick.

another mad day

Well suck my stump i was at that game with a mate from Yatton A fellow City fan, and we got done over by over 20 Burnley fans. We was being followed by 3 Burnley I said to my mate don't run and he said I ain't running from these tossers, then over twenty of the fuckers from the other side of the road was running at us

I shouted to my mate RUN!!

they cut us off and we was well and truly served up (cockney slang)

I dislocated my knee at that game, I'd climbed up on the fence and was singing "Going Up". Knee cap ended up round the back of my leg and St Johns had to cut a section of the fence down. Ended up in Burnley General next to an inbred Burnley fan that was trying to get out of his bed to attack me cos he had been glassed by a transit van of City fans on the way to the game. Supporters club bus left without me and my old man had to drive up and pick me up. We got lost in Trafford on the way home in the Red light district. Bad news was that I left my walkman on the bus with a large bag of opal fruits, never saw my walkman (plus Fleetwood mac tape) or the sweets again.

Ha ha well I wouldn't of thought the supporters bus would wait several days to pick you up

the inconsiderate bastards

but you are right they are like the Fooking jacks up there; Fooking INBRED !!!

i thought it was a curtis free kick that won it for us but drink and age have taken its tole
i do remember the brick throwing contest. how daft were we they had a bit of cover but we were in to open calling it on

Bumped for Polo.

Remember it well - bits of it anyway lol. I'd climbed onto a barrier after we scored, fell backwards onto the concrete steps - landing on my napper & ending up with concussion, treatment from St Johns and a huge head wound. No f*cking way was I wearing that stupid bandage out in Blackpool later that night

. Bumped into West Brom (?) & Pompey in the Tower Lounge - and a re-opened wound! No entry elsewhere for me after that

15 of us drove up from church village, llantrisant and ponty in a transit van. straight to blackpool where we left the transit and caught a train from there to burnley. back to blackpool after the game and remember pompey and us having a go at each other outside the foxhall pub?on the sea front...great away days

A lot of fans nowadays prefer it how it is, rather than how it was. Personal tastes differ, obviously.

Each to their own I suppose. I dont go away enough these days to make a fair comparison but I loved taking a train, plotting up in someones town / City centre, giving the OB the slip, then making the way to their ground. Was all part of the challenge and day in itself.

Yeah. I went to Forest 3 years ago, I think it was and got surrounded by OB, who said they'd take us to a pub. We walked around, in the rain for 50 minutes and then they took us to the ground. Not a great day. At least we won 1-0, though.

Those pics bring back memories, was only in my early teens. Was in their grandstand and was surprised to see how many City were on the terrace. KO was delayed and we had a kick around on the pitch with the free footballs and then tried to make it across the pitch to the terrace, only a handful made across it so was in the seats when they invaded the pitch and made there way over to the 30 or so Cardiff in their grandstand.

Enjoy Turf Moor tomorrow, all those who are going, just as I did in 1988.
