Our 'BRAND' of Football

Wed Mar 14, 2012 8:52 am

It's clear that in some games being direct is a good tactic depending on the Opposition. Then there's the other system we have been trying which is playing from the back.

I noticed last night for example that we tried to play out from the back (Whitts or Lawrence dropping in to pick up the Ball)

A lot moan about hoofball but from Watching our games it's clear to see our weakness at the back (where all attacks should start)
Teams that play this system have technically sound Defenders whose touch and distribution are perfect for that style.
Our centre halves and McNaughton possess little technical ability so distribution becomes poor in this area and we lose the ball a lot. We are way too slow at releasing the ball to more technical players ie, Whitts who should ALWAYS be given the ball as he is out best ball player.
Teams that play this system use two wide men and by wide I mean hugging the white line. This opens the middle of the park up making Whitts' job easier. The lack of Width is so evident and this doesn't help creativity.
No wonder McNaughtons fucked, under DJ he played 20yards deeper, now he does a two man job.

The other thing I have noticed is lack of taking risks ie, taking a player on.
Cowie doesn't want to attempt this at all in most of the games I see him play. A lack of pace is hurting us in this sense

We are meant to be a hard working unit which is all well and good until your techinal ability is found out.

I'm usually a positive poster but this is how I see it.

Keep the Faith lads
