I thought Marshall was excellent today and showed again why he's number one.
Heaton doesn't want to stay at the club because he wants first team football which is why the club won't offer him a new contract. Therefor, he should never take over from Marshall if he's going to leave in the summer.
That aside, Marshall was brilliant today and kept us in the game when it counted.

I agree, he had a brilliant game

Personally I believe that Heaton is a better all-round goalkeeper (therefore I would prefer him), but I don't mind Marshall being in goal at all. That save from Davis was good but the one from Pitman was genuinely brilliant.
As I said, I'd prefer Heaton as he's a bit more composed (I find Marshall to be a bit too of a rant-and-rave goalkeeper, though he is Scottish

) and more in control of his back four. I also feel that he commands his area more competently (the sight of Marshall attempting to deal with the corner which led to Blackpool's second goal at Wembley still haunts me to this day, and I'm genuinely staggered more people don't take it into account when debating who should be our first-choice goalkeeper).
But to be honest, we're tremendously lucky to have such good keepers!

Hope Heaton doesn't leave in the summer though.

I don't think he had anything to prove

To some "fans" on here (maybe unknowingly) he did Luke. I've always believe that Marshall is the better all round keeper but I think he's not done anything wrong and fans wanted Heaton in solely on his cup performances which just can't happen especially given his situation which I've mentioned.
I see for the first time in days thatbthere aren't threads going up about how Heaton should start, funny that

I prefer Marshall over Heaton. Only by the width of a goal post, but I do.
IMO Marshall is a better shot stopper, although he does stay rooted to his line quite a lot.
Heaton on the other hand comes out too far, too often to puch the ball away, and sometimes gets caught out (Palace away). The defence should allways be able to handle theirselves in the box and a keeper should only come out when he absolutely has to.
Both are good, capable Premiership keepers, and if McGregor wasn't constantly in the Scotland squad, Mashall would definitely be number 1.
When you look at Marrshall's performance against Leeds and Bristol today, he is definitely worthy of a few more international call-ups

Both good keepers

I'm happy with either in but IMO Marshall deserved his place.
He was top class today.

I still believe Heaton should have come in for Marshall after his Portsmouth (dropping the ball gifting Futacs a goal) and Blackpool (not the playoff final, but his failure to deal with the cross leading to Kevin Phillips' goal) blunders which cost us goals. However, Marshall had a great game today and on current form, deserves to keep his place.

Spot on in my opinion. I prefer Heaton as the defence just seem more composed when he is in goal and his distribution is miles better, but Marshall was MOM yesterday for keeping us in the game at 1-1 and it will be hard for Heaton to displace him after that display.

The reason Malky prefers Marshall is easy, he is taller and offers more physical presence,Heaton has to punch, because of his size.
Otherwise nothing between them.
