In your opinion how many seasons do you think Malky should have to get us promoted?
That is the target of this club and the manager has been employed to deliver, so in how many seasons should Malky realistically achieve promotion?
If he takes us up this year then that will be an over achievement, so should next year 2012-13 season be the season we expect to be the season of promotion or is it the season after?
I am a person who likes stability at a football club and would like a manager to be around for many years but for the sake of debate how many seasons should our manager have?
Obviously it is not as black and white as the question proposes but what are your thoughts as of today when you think it will all click into place for Malky, if you do believe it will.
And this is not a Malky out thread either

3 seasons. If he cant take us up by then we'll never go up
Fri Mar 09, 2012 7:15 pm
it all depends on what backing he gets on transfers if hes given millions to spend 1 season if not as long as it takes
Fri Mar 09, 2012 7:17 pm
Depends on the backing he gets, but 3 years after this one is fair, then again so many things can come into the equation, depends on the ride we get. Tough question.

So far Malky has spent approximately £2million on permanent transfers, not a ridiculous amount but sizeable nonetheless, if he continues with that sort of money each season then I believe Malky will get us promoted.

It is a tough question as you highlighted there are many permutations, we could win the FA cup and Carling cup next season and then win the Europa league the year after but still be in the Championship.
I was just wondering if anyone was thinking beyond this season as many accept it as a rebuilding season, is next season a rebuilding season also or do City fans expect to be challenging for the top if we are not promoted this year.

As others have stated, if the Malaysians decide to fork out more on transfer season (perhaps like Leicester) then I think that should be the season. But, like I said to you on the other thread, I'd more than happily be patient and build up our squad for a couple of seasons THEN go for promotion, aslong as the club is stable.

I agree, it all depends on the backing he receives from our board

Exactly my opinion Gary, let us be patient and stable and I believe we have the right man in Malky

I 100% agree with you.

i think next season is a rebuilding season and then i'd expect him to have right go for promotion. The team by then will be all players he signed as i think a lot of current players will be sold or released by then.

I think a lot of people outside our club have already decided that Malky has done an incredible job in his first season, competing for promotion and reaching the cup final. The man has superb leadership qualities and is going to get better and better. His performance will have other chairmen taking a look. In all likelihood it will be Malky that makes the decision about how long he has, not us.
Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:15 pm
I feel Malky didn't think the players would gel as quickly as they did, and I alway felt this season was a re-building season, however we have exceeded all expections imo. Trying to be optimistic maybe Malky feels the real spending will be in the summer preparing for a solid push for the cahmpionship.
Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:17 pm
I think he should have at least another 3 seasons but as for this season goes its been a MASSIVE SUCCESS
Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:23 pm
If he gets full backing, and in his words he received "90% backing" in the summer transfer window. Before his capabilities were shown, then I think he can get us up automatic next season. Larger squad, 7 subs etc. of course we need kind promotion from league one and relegation from the prem.
Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:31 pm
its not a question of how long we give malky ,to me its the oppersite in as how long will malky want to stay, carling cup final bright young manager .premier clubs will without a doubt be knocking at his door this summer. and a contract is not worth the paper it is writen on.
Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:34 pm
I think , the question should be " How long will he give us " before he moves on to a bigger club. I think he is destined to be a top top manager . But answer to the question , by the end of his contract we will be a premiership side .
Fri Mar 09, 2012 9:03 pm
Depends 100% on backing and also whether he can change tactics rather than his current team plan . Also depends on whether he can keep key players ir whitts etc and what backing the board give him - 3 seasons is enough
Fri Mar 09, 2012 9:18 pm
Also depends who comes down from the premier league. West ham were always going to be favourites for 1 of the promotion spots.
Fri Mar 09, 2012 9:44 pm
He deserves 3 years minimum. Ralls, Mason, Kiss, Harris and Parrish have been brought in with the future in mind. Malky hopefully, will have the time to develop them into top players.
Fri Mar 09, 2012 9:48 pm
we are not ready ,nor is malky ready to manage in the premiership yet.
we need to consolidate and build for a stay in the top flight.
Fri Mar 09, 2012 9:49 pm
i think 3 yrs is a realistic target. if malky cant get us to the prem in that time, i dont believe anyone can..
Fri Mar 09, 2012 10:34 pm
All a case of iff's & butt's,,,, i would say two to four years,,,five max.
Fri Mar 09, 2012 10:43 pm
Malky has already been a success for us, a Wembley final, 1 point off the play off`s with 12 games left and we are still in the hunt ! None of us would of thought we would have been here at this stage at start of season ! Yes, I think we as a club will be under pressure to hold on to him ! Not the other way round ! Timescales only put pressure on you to a acheive, let`s take one step at a time ! Malky I hope is here for the long term, and If he is ! Then, in my opinion, more success will come !
Fri Mar 09, 2012 11:19 pm
I am a massive Malky bum boy so he can have as long as he wants!

Exactly this. Malky is working wonders here with bugger-all to spend. Imagine what he could do with a Premier league budget
Compare him to some of the mediocre managers in the Premier League such as Martinez, Conner, Coyle & Kean - all of whom will be looking for a new job next season with 3 out of the 4 clubs being in the Championship (with parachute payments to spend) It does ask the question - Will he stick around when the money is wafted under his nose?
After all, he was quick enough to leave Watford at the first chance.
