My thoughts go out to the families of the 6 soldiers who have died in Afganistan in the biggest single loss of life in the conflict since the Nimrod crash of 2006, it's a sad time.
But, what is also sad as I scroll through my Facebook status updates, is the only people who seem to mention the tragedy are servicemen and former soldiers I once served with. Are we as a society becoming to used to the stories of our war dead? People are more interested in what's happening in Geordie Shore!
I suppose it's just the age we live in...

We have the best Army in the world and the worst Generals,i think it was the second world war when a German general coined the phrase.....Lions led by Donkeys, its now time to bring our brave forces home, but somehow in doing so we have to make sure that those brave men and women did not die in vain

it was world war 1 actually that the phrase became popular
and our generals do a very good job in a very difficult time
read General Sir Richard Dannatt's autobiography.
We have been in Afghanistan for over a decade now and have incurred 400 losses in that time
Thats 40 people a year in an armed conflict in what is generally considered one of the most dangerous places in the world
Though the loss of any life is tragic its a testament to our military command structure from top down and vice versa.
RIP you brave people.

I think it's well overdue, these hero's should be home already. This conflict has gone on to long already.
Rest in peace, gone but never forgotten.
