Cardiff, not Cardiff City??

As I am new to this forum, I thought I would start my first post with a very important question in my opinion....
Why are being referred to as Cardiff and not Cardiff City??
I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that when anybody is mentioning us playing a game, we are being referred to as Cardiff and NOT Cardiff city. It was mentioned at the Carling cup final when I watched the re-run and as I am on nights I have noticed it tonight watching SSN's advertisement for this saturday's local derby. It reads Bristol CITY v Cardiff. Have I missed something or can anybody shed some light onto this?
it is my first season as a season ticket holder this is because I am now at a base closer to home being in the RAF.I have followed city for well over 14 years but only 3 seasons ago I have been able to attend games on a regular basis.Last april I got posted closer to home and was able to purchase my season ticket to enjoy the rollercoaster that is the Bluebirds. I must say the away games are the highlight of following City for me as we have the best fans in the country in my opinion, and after my 3 hours sleep when I finish my night shift I will be making the trip to Brighton later on this afternoon

I agree - it may not be seen as a major thing but SSN repeatedly drop the city from our club name. Maybe its because there is no other club to mix us up with like Man City/Utd etc...

Glad it's not just me then! Although it does annoye that they have dropped it, your reason could well be correct but ive not seen it done to the jacks.....

In fairness mate - I've seen them do it to a lot of clubs including the jacks.

cardiff are known as just cardiff, swansea are known as just swansea, leicester are known as just leicester etc etc. its because we're one city clubs.

Would not worry too much about it. As others have said, we are a one club city. Bristol City, as opposed to the Gasheads. Cardiff, Swansea, Leeds, Derby, Leicester, Newcastle etc.
