" Malky rules out top two finish "

Always next season for automatic, with a strong hard to beat squad... come on city.. :ayatollah:

BBC 6th March 2012.
" Malky Mackay concedes automatic promotion spot for Cardiff City "

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay says he has virtually given up hope of claiming an automatic Championship promotion spot.
The Bluebirds are currently lying eighth in the table, nine points adrift of West Ham United in second.
Their promotion hopes have faded significantly over recent weeks following four defeats in five games.
"I think it's going to be difficult to get automatic promotion - there's no good sugar coating that," said Mackay.
Mackay says that Cardiff cannot compete with the strength of squads West Ham and leaders Southampton have put together.
"The two top clubs have shown the spending power this year with the teams they have got and the players they have got," he added.
"It's going to be difficult to match that. In January for West Ham to go out and bring in the players they have - it makes them much stronger.

"The top two are certainly looking strong.
"[For West Ham] to bring on Carlton Cole and Gary O'Neill - two guys who have been involved in the Premier League - shows the strength they have got."
But despite being distracted by their Carling Cup run, which saw them reach the final but subsequently lose on penalties to Liverpool , Mackay believes Cardiff are definitely in the play-off mix with 13 games remaining.
"There's another eight teams going for the four [play-off] places," said the Scot.
"There are 13 games to go so we will keep going."
Mackay also admitted that the Carling Cup campaign took it its toll on his players, with signs of fatigue obvious in Sunday's 0-2 home defeat by West Ham.
"It was always going to be a tough one [against West Ham]," he said.
"What would really have helped us was the international games hadn't been in the week and we hadn't have had two or three [players] flying all over the place.
"And also extra time [in the Carling Cup] as well comes into it. But overall we've still got to do better and we know that.
"I spoke to Sam [Allardyce] after the game and he was delighted that our game went to extra time and we were having more exertion on the Sunday when they played on the Saturday.
"We have seven games in March and we play every midweek which is incredible because of the Carling Cup."

Is he being realistic or negative?

With 39 points to play for it seems a little early to be ruling this out although seeing the way we've been playing in the league it's hard to see us getting anywhere near the top two.

Is Malky trying to dampen expectations?

well im not happy with that ,doesnt give out good vibes to the team...is he dj,s cousin or smething.......we have 2 big games in brighton and bristol we need 2 wins to get us back on track ,my gut feeling is we will get a point at brighton and the bristol who have bee nstruggling will turn us over ....looks like we,re gonna do a watford last season, maybe the intense training etc malky has them doing has caught up.....hope not still hoping we,ll get a play off spot

I think hes been realistic here.
If Westham pick up say 26 points from there last few games. Which i think is realistic that would require us to pick up 37 out of 39 to be level with them. If my maths are right :ugeek:

He hasn't ruled it out so the title is mis-leading......He actually said "its going to be very difficult, no point in sugar-coating that"

Gutting now our cry baby fan group will have another reason to cry their eyes out. A manager in his first season can't get us Champion's League football in his first season. Frankly he needs sacking, after all we've only been a out of the top flight for 50+ years!

Could just be taking a bit of pressure of the team.

Personally I just don't see west ham and Southampton dropping enough points. We'll see though, try and win every game and see where it takes us

Its not just how you manage players these days, its how you manage expectation. Ours is ludicrous.

Ceri Gravenor That's the problem you see, Malky and the team have far exceeded our expectations and now we want/expect more !! Of course we all want promotion, but if you had offered me 8th place finish at the start of the season I would have bitten your hand off for it. IMWT♥

Westham and Southampton have been getting on average 2 points per game (which is the benchmark for the autos) so we would have to match that and make up the 11 points difference to catch them. This would mean we would have to score 37 points out of the remaining 39 just to realistically have any chance of catching them, based on how heavily they are scoring and we are playing its just not feasible.

Whats the point of chasing shadows, sometimes you have got to realise when you are beaten and concentrate on what is achievable. Thats not being negative that's just realistic. Its mathematically possible, but you have got more chance of herding a group of cats into a lions den than managing Cardiff into the top 2.Lets just go up via the play offs.

Is this some kind of joke yet we had a supposed near 5million bucks 4-5 hours before deadline ended and all we have had is "WE NEED MORE PLAYERS" for 8months  you couldnt make this shit up, we will be lucky to finish 12th at this rate of shit football

Hes being honest?
Why raise expectations on our team you know its never got us anywhere?
Be grateful for where we are. MM is young and promising and got a team together and got them way past the expectation from the start of the season.
