Squad - Midfielders/Strikers

Mon Mar 05, 2012 3:27 pm

It is clear that MM prefers a 4-5-1 formation however he has played 2 strikers in the last matches.

Looking at the depth of numbers in midfield : Kiss, Whittingham, Cowie, Conway, Mason, Gunnarsson, Vuckic, Harris, Mc Phial, Ralls & Lawrence I am surprised that we have not brought in another 1/2 strikers or kept hold of or used who we have.

Miller is the only one who has been played regularly. Earnie has not been used, Rudy has had his fair share of injuries and Parkin/Jarvis are out on loan. It would be nice to get a new face in if Earnie is not going to be used. I would suggest a striker is more important than another midfielder. We needed a bit of width and hopefully Lawrence can provide that option.

We looked a really solid unit and extremely dangerous when playing 4-5-1. Is it a coincidence that we have lost most matches this season when playing 4-4-2.

I agree with you, a striker is imperitive at this stage (even if it is only to wake Miller up). His finishing suggests that he is not working hard enough in training. Another striker (even if they aren't necessarily as good as Miller) would give him the kick up the ass he needs between now and the end of the season.

Agree, always healthy to have a bit of competition. In fairness to Miller he has done a lot of running when playing 4-5-1 but he could do with some help up there sometimes and a few goals to boost his confidence. :ayatollah:

If we had a stronger midfield (going forward) and a couple of players who aren't afraid to go forward and beat a man, there would be no need for Miller to drop back at all. :ayatollah:

The squad has numbers it's just we have two key problems.

1) squad players who are not good enough or not wanted but on good money which eats up the wage bill.

2) to many like for like players.

I fully expect MM to have a huge clear out this summer. He didn't have long last summer to get players out and in. The January window is not a time to change things massively either so it's this summer when he wi be judged on his transfer ability.
