Reality Check.

Mon Mar 05, 2012 12:49 am

In a week we've drawn with Liverpool at Wembly and Lost at home to lge favs WestHam...

So what.

What happend to a season of rebuilding and settling in ?

Imagine if we had,had this start to the season we would be reading
"Malky Out" "out of his depth" "we sacked DJ for this".

Fellas we need to get a grip of ourselves, no one expected anything from us at the start and look how well we started,
Now there's pressure and expectation at a time when the players are looking jaded and could probably do with an extended break. We have players in the squad that aren't getting a chance but we must trust our managers judgement, he watches them day in day out, surely if they were up to the task then they would be getting used.

We've all moaned about lack of this and not enough of that but one thing remains the same and that's DESIRE!!
From Players to Coaches, from Fans to Programme vendors we all desire crave and want Premier Football.

So let's just get behind the team and BELEIVE in our Managers vision and ideas.

Most of us Said in August we'd be happy with a top ten finish..

I Don't care who says "we was here then and we could've done this if we had got this or that".
We've been a lot closer and failed, so stop pinning your hopes on short term glory when long term is our main goal.

Inches away from lifting the cup
And inches away from drawing 2-2 as well.

no sorry im not having this season of rebuilding nonsense.

we were in a great position and have failed miserably to kick on.

The fact malky keeps picking rudy and doesnt even have a striker on the bench speaks volumes that this guy is not the wonder manager people like to make out.

Word fickle just doesn't do it justice!!

So you lose Bellamy Burke Bothroyd Chopra from your forward line and you expect us to be all guns blazing and going for it?

Get a grip FFS.

Yesterday we were unlucky, last Sunday we were unlucky. Crossbar and post yesterday, and two pens hitting the post last week.
An inch closer we would be cup winners and in the play off positions .
So yes a reality check is needed.

We wasn't unlucky yesterday ... Better team won.

But people need to grasp the bigger picture..

Totally agree. West Spam have improved steadily since we outplayed them at the start of the season. Signing quality players like Maynard says it all about their ambition.

We'll never compete with them financially (nor to I suggest we try). I just hope that we don't bottle another play-off due to a bad run started because of a tin-pot cup run.

Cracking post what will be will be all we can do is get behind the club and be the 12th man instead of all this doom and gloom we get on here everytime we play badly!

How could it have been 'inches away from 2-2' when it wasn't 2-1?

Re: Reality Check.

I think the exPectation that has come about has shocked us all, even Malky. The squad has been picked to grow, and has done superbly. So good that it has taken us back to the places we've been over the last five years with our emotions seein the large picture. Buy why shouldn't we expect them to kick on and give us the things we know we can achieve. Why shouldn't we get on top of them when we are yet again Beeing taken so close? The fact we are feeling like this is a good thing IMO.

I don't think we will go up this year but look out next year with this squad experienced! Malky worst mistake has been being to goo too soon!

We hit the woodwork twice, so we were inches away from scoring twice

by that token it should have been about 7-2 with the chances they only just missed

Well the official match show we had 51% possession had 12 attempts at goal, West Ham had 11 and both teams had 4 attempts on target.

Not exactly the stuff of being completely outplayed in my opinion.

What I mean is that if the first missed opportunity was not missed, then following the restart, there would have been entirely different circumstances and outcomes and not the same events; other things would have happened.

I don't think West Ham were that good I think people just saw our poor performance and assumed that West Ham must have been good if they beat us.

As 2Blue has said but for hitting the post twice, both of which are counted as off target attempts on another day we would have got a draw out of that game. For me neither side could have complained if it had been a draw. West Ham have a wage budget 3 times higher than ours and I would say did anyone who watched that game see £38m difference in the teams, forget the result was there that level of difference in those teams. Yesterday the first goal was HUGE and unfortunately we didn't get but if we had. Hmmm

To me the reality check should be that after 33 games we have scored 50 goals which is only 3 less than the so called talent we had last season. We have conceded 41 goals which is only 3 more than last season and we have lost 1 game less than the same stage last season. We have also played one less home game.

Although we are 5 points lower than where we were at this stage last season it is not over by any measure. We are in the playoff race and no doubt about it.

well that just goes to show how completely misleading the stats can be.

They bossed us until around the hour mark, we had a little huff and puff until they killed us off with the 2nd.

Mark Noble was superb. Men against boys.

Men who had less of the ball, fewer attempts on goal, had the same number of attempts on goal, didn't hit the woodwork, committed more fouls I could go on.

Bossed us around Right.

Mr Stats, That hurt.

I left nothing out the better team won on the day I'm not in denial about that. I think when you makes comments like we were completely outplayed yesterday it's almost impossible back that up with anything but personal opinion.

Be it match stats or watching the match in the stadium or on TV we simply were not completely outplayed, just beaten by a team who had more than we did on the day.

Take petrsonal opinion about "Lucky they didn't have their shooting boots on", a comment which could be applied to Cardiff, and well the reality is we were unlucky on the day. Simples

So were we unlucky? or beaten by the better team? A contradiction dont you think?

Its MY opinion that the completely outplayed us and bossed us on Sunday. We huffed and puffed for 10-15 minutes in the 2nd half but they were in complete control. Not only do they have better players but we were way off the pace.

I dont care what the stats say I have got two eyes, and a good understanding of the game. As already stated stats are misleading. Pot shots from 30 yards count as attempts when in truth they are desperate acts that rarely lead to goals, as we didnt look like breaking them down.
