Our midfield options now!

Fri Mar 02, 2012 11:39 pm

A couple of seasons ago we were saying how light we were in midfield, often having to ask Darcy Blake and Aaron Wildig to do a job in the centre when we had a few injuries. Now look at our options and look how much Malky has strengthend this area. We now have a choice of:

Whittingham, Cowie, Gunnarsson, Conway, Kiss, McPhail, Ralls, Mason, Vuckic and now Lawrence, plus Kadeem Harris etc who will hopefully push for a place in the future.

The first ten players (before Harris) can argubally play at this level with ease. We have so much strength in depth in our midfield area now and I believe this strength in depth will allow us to mount a serious challenge for the automatics. We are also strong enough with our 2 excellent keepers and plenty of good options defensively imo, the only area we lack might be up front but if we use our strong midfield to play 4-5-1, we don't really need another striker. I honestly feel this season is as good a chance as any in us going up and I thank Malky for assembling the squad he has! :ayatollah:

I always think if you have option in midfield you have more of a chance, it's where games are won and lost. Different types of players as well.
The squad is big enough now, I refuse to believe this is an excuse now.

Be great if we could pull off a win sunday, it would realy give us a massive boost and set us up nicely for the remainder of the season! Our midfield is as good as anything in this league, we have nothing to fear, they don't come much tougher than west ham so if we beat them sunday and take maximam points off them for the season, then I can't see any reason why we can't go on and gain promotion, if not top2 then I'm very confident that this squad of ours got the minerals to do it in the playoffs :ayatollah:

I agree totally, and we do not need another striker, we need Miller to start hitting the target. The space he has been creating an the positions he finds himself in ate brilliant, just doesn't seem to be connection with the goal. Personally I would let Earnie have a run, that may shake miller a bit, I think he lOoled sharp when he came on for Wales. But I trust Malkies decision!!!

Great post. Agree the midfield does look sorted with plenty of options. IMO we do need a target man to make use of the crosses from wide positions. Rudy is doing great at times he just hasn't got the consistency yet. Someone like Jason Roberts would be perfect.

With the great signing of Lawrence, I can't help but feel a sense of worry for Steve Mac.

Hope we see Steve in a City shirt again this season.

Forgot to add, I know that Liam and Steve play different positions but the depth now in our midfield is amazing!

From a personnel point of view we all now kind of know malkay don't rate earnie but even now he ain't played really since west brim game he game on for Wales ain't still found back of the net yes offside goal but still scored he should be used more in my own opinion
