Help Pompey (Pompey fan here)

Thu Mar 01, 2012 8:52 pm

Hi There Folk. I'm from Portsmouth and have been fan since 1947. I was born in Pontypridd. I hope you don't mind me sneaking into your forum? I see by your correspondence you don't like what has been going on surrounding Fratton Park and you are well informed into the dirt that has been thrown our way. Some of it - actually all of it - is the fault of them that had control? Was the FA Cup bought? What sacrifice! The Cup should have been yours!
Why I have got into your forum is to ask you some questions. I don't get around much as you may imagine by my age so I thought I'd ask you.
Was your Club bought by your Fans? Where can I find info of this? There is talk of that sort of thing happening here but I can't find out what is happening. I can't do much but what little I can do, I shall. Like sending letters to the FA. For the past few years, everything Pompey do, they throw obstacles in the way.
Cheers....and Thanks for listening....Dave.

Hi Dave and welcome. :ayatollah:
So sorry to hear what is happening to such a great club.
No it wasnt, its owned by a number of business men some we like/some we dont. We have a mixture of football owners/business men and even rugby men owing us.

I wish we could help though.

Twice in admistration is simply unexceptional and you deserve the maximum punishment but I hope it doesn't mean liquidation as that would be a massive shame.

Eh?

Wrote off what 100m in debts by going the CVA route.

FAILED to pay the CVA off, sacked cheap players whilst keeping some high paid players, Kitson on what 20k a week?

Portsmouth have as a club taken the f*cking piss BIG time - much like Rangers in the SPL. Cancer on the game.

None of those fans protested when dodgy owners spent big bucks the club didn't have on name players...

Why?

Because they chose to stiff creditors numerous times? Because the club was trading insolvently?

Why should a football club - a business entity - act above business law, laws any other business has to work within?

As I outlined above, they've cynically taken the piss, big time.

Oh, and what else.

Ah yes, getting permission to loan players in, due to having a squad under "minimum" size.

And turn a blind eye to the fact youth players were loaned out to prevent them being on the subs bench, possibly playing, meaning they'd then count against the squad limit.

Fans have done little wrong.

Otherwise I agree with you. This season they should have been playing with kids in minimal wages not signing players on big wages.

Hi There Folk. Thanks for your replies. A good mixed response. All that stuff that was going on, I for one didn't like. I didn't really like winning the Cup? These people that were supposed to be running the Club were doing it for themselves and not bothering about the fans. What was going on in the background we now are suffering for. No taxes were paid, and I would like to know where that money went? WE can only speculate. Not only the taxman wasn't paid, but local tradesmen weren't either! I have a strong belief that the FA - or some people in it - knew what was going on and were kept quiet. The whole episode is a complete mess. The administrator has said as such and I pray that we can get above all that, get all the muck out and get back to where we were. General Montgomery was our President for years after the war in those years when one had Pride of Pompey. But, thanks again for your feelings - much appreciated, truely! As you are not rivals I do wish you get promotion - rather, rather, than any team in our area.
God Bless You. Dave.

Uh-huh.

Pointing out Portsmouth as a club cynically and systematically cheated the system is condesCending sanctimounious crap.

Indeed, no-one should point out Pompey's offences and the fact any punishment has to be severe because some like Pompey's fans.

How intriguing.

for a well run club you need to look a little further down the road , like a pheonix rising from the ashes of mis-management , huw and his fellow heroes have taken the club to the promised land and have done it on a budget , also giving the supporters a say in the running of the best team wales has seen in generations , if only every club could learn by their mistakes like we have football wouldn't be in the mess it is ! well done huw what a man ,what a team ,WHAT A CLUB

don't worry about all the local businesses that your club screwed over with 5p in £. Your club is rotten to the core and used admin to avoid debts-had 10pt deduction been in place you would never have entered admin. This is the reason why clubs get deductions and why wales lost its 3rd league club. Wrexham were doing well in lge 1 but had hamilton in charge who raped the club and rest is history

now your just being silly ! not one board member remains from those days when the club was run appalingly but lessons have been learned , and theres no way you can critiscise the way we are being run at the moment , clubs should look at us as a beacon of hope and inspiration in these dark days of debt ridden football , huw jenkins the football finance genius

Hi There Folks, Although from Portsmouth I have an affinity with you and Wales. As I wrote, I was born in the same town as Tom Jones in the same year; my sister lives near Brecon; and I was stationed at St Athans and lived in Barry. It hurts when you bring up the nasty things about Pompey. They are all true! We, as fans, couldn't do anything about it? When players were bought we thought the owner could afford it? We know different now? We went into administration - and questions need to be answered about the truth about that?? Then a new buyer was found? It was thought that all things should be OK now? Then he buggered off! Leaving a mess! By design? It seems rather strange? Then, into administration again. We,the fans, didn't have anything to do with it? So, please, don't have a go at the fans. IT's some people allowing foreigners into British Soccer. So , please, let us all be aware that there are those out there who want to get into Soccer in this country of our's for gain. It has started with Portsmouth, so let's not let it go further. Some one wrote abouth Portsmouth council not supporting it's football club? Typical!! When winning the Cup, they loved it, and gave the manager freedom of the City. Southsea Common (in Portsmouth) had a reported number of 200,000 to see the winning team on the day after the Cup Final. Where are these people, now? Probably , thrown their flags away? Well, to cap it all, I'm going round to pick up all those flags so I can stick them up somewhere when Pompey once again win my respect of the Club I once loved.
Hope you don't mind my having another mail for I read your letters after I sent my other one and going out for a couple of beers. It is so pleasing to read your support. Thanks....Dave.

i do fewl sorry for the fans and its going to take a club as big as pompy to turn a few heads in football...the money has gone out of control across football including us!

what i hate is when clubs go into admin and then still function next year..we will lose points bcos of someone else negligence..
