You are correct there is only one operating Nuclear Power Station working in Wales Wylfa, but you are forgetting we are close to the English border and Oldbury is in England. But to make you feel better there is a working Reactor at Hinkley Somerset. And you can see that from Wales![]()

The Fuel Elements will take a few years to take out and reprossed as there are 50.000 of them. Once this has been achieved that would account for 99.9% of all activity that has been removed from Oldbury.
The Reactors that are made out of Graphite will then be left empty and can be left in safe storage, And that is by far the best way. They wont be dangerous or will leak, and they wont be that active in terms of what they are now.
The new Reactors being built are smaller but more Efficient and our experience at decommissioning are taken into account of how the new ones are built.

Must have been one hell of an intresting fascinating place to work at all them years mate, I've watched quite a few programs about the science behind nuclear energy. And although I can never quite understand what its all about, I still find it truly amazing how we humans can produce and control somthing so powerfull as nuclear energy

Oldbury Power Station which is the station i have been working at for 26 yeayars shut down Reactor one at 11am for the very last time. It is sad for me knowing Oldbury will never produce Electricity again. I will never Fuel those Reactors again just take the Fuel out![]()

If you think that's imprerssive then next year, the Oyster Creek station in New Jersey will also have been running for 44 yrs and will eventually complete some 60 yrs service as its not due for closure till 2029.

Oldest running reactor for which it is now not. My old man worked at Oldbury from1967 to around 94 and he is still the only living person to enter a reactor after it had started to help remove a jack that was left there and was causing the reactor to trip. True story that![]()
