Port Vale hit by winding-up petition

Port Vale have been served with a winding-up petition by HM Revenue & Customs over an unpaid tax bill.
HMRC claim they are owed over £750,000 by the League Two club, who have failed to pay their players' wages this month.
Vale's board are trying to secure a loan from Stoke-on-Trent City Council to fund administration.
If that is successful, they will file for immediate administration to stave off the petition, although they will then be deducted 10 points.
That Football League punishment would effectively end their play-off bid.
The club, who are under a transfer embargo, are behind on their loan repayments to the council and do not have the number of directors needed, by law, to function properly.

Without wealthy benefactors, I am sure that Wigan (£72million in debt) would be in very serious trouble right now. Bolton (over £100 million) would face an uphill struggle, and Villa (announced £50million +) losses yesterday would be slightly worried.

Football is in a serious mess and at some point a big club is going to go to the wall, Rangers seem to be limping on, looks gloomy at Portsmouth again along with several other clubs. I am aware that the Swans had their problems in the past, not here to preach about other clubs.

I'm not a fan of Platini but maybe there is something in this financial fair play rule that might start to sort things out? No-one else of any authority running football seems to have come up with an answer, the fit and proper persons test obviously isn't thorough enough. Anyone got any suggestions?

Which is why when people have digs at the Malaysians demanding more signings they should be careful what they wish for. We have had to fund a whole new squad and staff and things are going fantastically well, and better than any of us could have wished...

But Milly the Malaysians say they put up £5 mill for signings.
Malky said 3 times publicly we need strengthening.
We made millions out of the Carling Cup.
A quick question for you, do we need strengthening if we want to go up ?

Well i always thought it was the 11 players on the pitch who are the only ones that really matter because they are the ones who win things weather it be cups or promotions = much bigger returns money wise, weather or not the behind the scenes are going well off the field its on the field you get rewards in all areas :ayatollah: or do we carry on getting to 3rd the league for the next few seasons and drop out again while never going for it squad wise, meanwhile the debt goes up and up its either one or the other :ayatollah:

Annis do you not feel the money made from the carling cup would be better used to help run the day to day running of the club. Bearing in mind in the space of a week or so Rangers, Pompey, Port Vale, to name a few have come out in the press as being up shit creek and bearing in mind what Carl said last night?

Do we need Strengthening to go up?

No I honestly dont believe so. If we had spoken about this 8months ago when we had no squad no manager no staff I think we all would have taken this situation. Malky has picked the right players for him, and at the right cost for the club. If we dont make it this year it will still have been the best season I have witnessed in many a season.

Im not being funny but I don't think we could have been any more sensible with our spending this season!! That's all we are asking for is 1-2 more emergency loan signings!! Surely loovenkrands or a number of other strikers or wingers aren't going to cost us the earth !

It's all getting very frustrating!! We've got money to spend ... we haven't got money to spend!! Surely we've come so close this season we can't throw it away now or is it already to late!

Birmingham still bringing players in on loan today from premier league clubs!!

Ok Milly we agree to disagree, I hope I am wrong, but if we dont strengthen, I honestly dont see us going up.

Lets face it who can we bring in now at this stage short term loans of players whose hearts are not in our club? I would rather wait till the summer and strengthen from the solid base that we already have. If we are lucky enough to get promoted this season then great if not no harm done its been a pretty good season when you look at what we were left with after moans left. :ayatollah:

This news about Port Vale doesn't really surprise me if I'm honest as I believe this has been on the cards since Stoke City won promotion to the Premier League. With the distance between both clubs being only a few miles the attraction of PL football is bad news.

Although Port Vale have always had a hardcore supporter base of about 5,000 they are now down below the 5,000 threshold with some games below 4,000, even when they are pushing for a playoff place. They now look likely to go into administration for the second time in 10 years and if Robbie Willams hadn't invested money a few years back they would have gone into administration then.

Perhaps the Football League should look to combine League two and the Conference on a north and South division basis at least that would help reduce operating costs. Newport are looking to get back into the FL but right now they barely get 1,000 for some games, Fleetwood who are top of the Conference barely get 2,000. How do they compete on crowds of that size and how do Newport fund the cost of travelling to Barrow.

I also think that FIFA and UEFA should do more than work on Financial Fair Play Rules I think they introduce salary caps throughout the football pyramids. I think forcing clubs to maintain their wage bill at a set % of revenue isn't working. This has been in place for a couple of season now in League Two and still clubs are overspending.

Blackpool and Burnley have proved in recent years that you can be successful without overspending but sadly clubs will over spend, look at us we are hardly the poster boys for reasonable expenditure.

Something needs to be done for the future of the game we all love but I just cannot see anyone with the will to deal with this issue.

All the clubs should get together worldwide and put a wage cap of max 10000 a week . That would help. Overpaid the lot of them. As we seen Sunday there is not a massive difference. Then they should slash admission and catering costs . :ayatollah:
