Promoter Frank Warren wants WBO light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly to face veteran Bernard Hopkins at the Cardiff City Stadium in the summer. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: shit more fights outside the ring.

It'll never happen, not at the Millenium anyway.Warren spouting shite as per usual. No doubt he'd like it to happen but Bernhard wont travel over here and the WBO means f**k all to him.

He'll do with Clev what he done with his other cash cow Calzaghe and have meaningless defences against mandatories until he has no other option that to travel stateside and challenge real live fighters.

Clev is overrated and limited anyway.

He can only fight whats put in Front if him

A lot of Boxers fight so called 'bums' and then later in their career, fight better ones

Clev reminds me of Calzaghe, he's not got a huge amount of power but he's quick and relentless

Plus, Warren said the CCS not the Millennium

Clev, i think would get intimidated by B-hop, too early for him that fight.

Agree, he is still Maturing and needs more fights before he faces someone like Hopkins

Feck me, He needs more time before he fights Hopkins! :?

If Clev waits any longer, Hopkins will be on a zimmer frame and drawing his fecking pension! :)

I never meant he has to wait for Hopkins, but someone of his stature and experience

Could have a long wait though, as there's no one around of this stature in the division ATM, save for errm Hopkins! :) :ayatollah:

There's 2 great domestic scraps out there for him.Enzo Macarinelli and Carl Froch.Enzo first up and then Froch if he beats him.

And i know Froch is a Super Middle but a huge one at that.LH beckons for the Cobra.

Neither of these are Hopkins class!

The money fight is versus Hopkins!

He wont get the Hopkins match though whereas a fight with Enzo or Froch is much more feasible.Frank Warren is forever calling out the big names after his charge has just won....very rarely does it materialise though.

I disagree also that Hopkins would mean more money.Froch under Hennessy commands huge purses.5 yrs ago i'd have agreed but not now.

we had all this talk about big fighters and clevery calling out beibt shemanov which never materialised and then out the blue karpency pops up, i got a feeling cleverly and his dad will run thier mouths about big fighters names we called them out etc then we get someone completley different again, cleverly is good but not ready for the big names not yet anyway, froch wants to move up and that will be a good bout and i think froch can beat cleverly, andre ward is supposed to be moving up and would toy with nathan, get a rematch with bellew then look at the big names

Re: Nathan Cleverly

There's no way Froch is a bigger payday than Hopkins, although I'd be shocked if Hopkins came to Wales to fight him!

Clev should be capable of beating him now though and he could then take on Froch, after he's disposed of Hopkins!

The longer it takes for Clev to get Hopkins in the ring, the less creditable any win would be!

Cleverley v Hopkins would mean jack shit in the States fella, which is where the wonga is.Seriously, the big networks wouldn't be interested.Infact i can guarantee that HBO or Showtime or even Hopkins himself won't have heard of Cleverley,or if they have then very little.

A domestic scrap v Froch would get huge interest though and ensure both fighters a very tasty pay day.

Think you're missing a bit of the point here, as it's about trying to get Hopkins in the ring, who I still think is the biggest payday, if Warren can pull it off!

I suspect that Clev's camp will see Froch as too big a risk ATM and may want a few more fights after Hopkins, before they consider somebody like Froch!

Re: Nathan Cleverly

Vince cleverly and nathan himself already have talked up about fighting froch and said they can beat him, vince himsellf wrote on facebook a while back saying nathan would stop froch, hopkins is a big draw but just over here in the UK, over the US they wouldn't give to monkeys because cleverly is not well known yet

Re: Nathan Cleverly

there's no way hopkins would travel over here to fight

he's always been a good showman with the way he talks a good fight and the old throat-cutting routine but unfortunately when he gets into the ring he just turns into one negative, defensive c**t.

When the level of opposition is upped, so will Nathans performances. That is fact. People won't see the best of him until he's in with the likes of Cloud, Sumenov or Pascal for example. Once someone can actually give him problems, he'll turn it on.
