This is an email I have received from Wayne Nash regarding the plans in place for a memorial at Wembley for Mikey Dye
Carl
Following our conversation regarding the Mike Dye Memorial and having looked at all possible locations around the stadium with Wembley (WNSL) we would like to designate an area opposite Turnstiles M & N in the SW corner of the External Concourse for memorial items to be placed. We have a set of railings roughly 30m long which lends itself to fans attaching scarves, shirts, flags etc. The below map shows this area marked with a in relation to the stadium.
As the concourse is relatively narrow given the number of spectators that will descend upon us before kick-off, we ask that you try and encourage fans not to bring items that would be laid on the floor. As we can provide a large expanse of rails for scarves, flags and shirts to hang items on this would work best in a similar way to what was done in Cardiff at the Ninian Park Gates gates for Mikey. Any items that need to be laid will be taken behind a set of barriers next to the area so that they do not cause an obstruction to spectators or get trampled on, this is especially critical when we have 1000’s of fans leaving enemas post match. Please ensure fans are aware of this minor stipulation.
Lyndsey will have a team Of Cardiff City Stewards armed with Cable ties to avoid places anything on the floor if possible.
The area is actually a part of the External OB Compound. That compound will be used on match day by the broadcasters but we will screen the area off using black shade netting. In order to designate the railings as the memorial location WNSL will tie a Cardiff City scarf to the railings on the evening of Saturday 25th February.
Best Regards
Wayne Nash
I have just had a telephone conversation with Wayne and he told me that many items from the Ninian Park gates have been boxed and ready to go to London and the forum shirt which Merlin put together will be at Wembley. Also Mallo has handed in the Ely Trendy flag which will be on show at the memorial.
Please if you have anything you would like to display take it to the area that has been designated as it will be looked after by our stewards and the area will be given the respect it deserves.
