Portsmouth Start Offloading Players

Thu Feb 23, 2012 10:19 am

As Huseklepp is about to move to Birmingham on loan for the rest of the season.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,12040_7539586,0.html

With Portsmouth at risk of running out of cash within 6 weeks offloading high paid players has become essential and it should surprise no one that Birmingham have signed him. As a club in receipt of £16m in PL parachute payments this season it gives them the financial cloat to make this type os signing whilst clubs like ourselves, Southampton and Brighton can only look on in envy.

With West Ham, Birmingham, Hull and Middlesbrough all still receiving parachute payments it does highlight what an amazing job we are doing to be in amongst them with 14 games to go.

I'd get that Futacs lad on loan! He looked class against us. Just the sort of striker we need as well. :ayatollah:

Just the player I was thinking of as he looked a real handful against us. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Would have thought there'd be quite a few players available in the Blue side of Glasgow as well! ;) :ayatollah:

Seriously, is that how much the parachute payment is, 16mil, shit thought it would be lower than that, I'd be happy for us to go up and down for a few seasons then.

£16 million each season for the first 2 seasons and then £8 million each season for the next 2 seasons I believe! :ayatollah:

Don't think they are at the stage where they are releasing players and we are unable to loan from them at present I believe?

Would have thought that they could release their players from their contracts though, which would allow other clubs to sign them up as freebies!

Or is that just me being silly? :)

Forgot to include Blackpool in the parachute payments £16m for them this season as well.

I really hope Portsmouth manage to survive until the end of the season because we would lose 4 points if they fold, West Ham would lose 6 but Birmingham and Hull only lose 3 whilst Blackpool and Middlesbrough lose only 1 and Reading lose none.

Portsmouth folding could see us drop out of the playoff places.

You're not being silly at all as any players Rangers release from their contracts become free agents and can sign for any club in any country. With the mess Rangers are in there must be a chance some players will be realeased.

A bit like Craig Beattie signing for Hearts today. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

We should offer them some of our Academy players to play for them for free then! ;) :ayatollah:

You're spot on - word of any job losses and players being released doesn't seem to be forthcoming at present though. Must only be a matter of time, though selling one player this week will help them out. They have a thin squad so I'm unsuer if they would even be in a position to let nayone go given they have injuries too. Who knows!!

And loan them the likes of Keinan or a couple of Academy players for free! :) :ayatollah:

I'd definately take that Joel Ward looks a really good player, only 22 as well. In fact I'd take just about anyone of their players except Kitson.

Apparently the Football League have told Portsmouth they will not allow them to sign any players until they are down to 14 fulltime professionals :o :o :o :o .

Ican't see anyway they can survive relegation this season and that would probably be a good result for them considering where they are at this moment.

Can't believe that they've only been docked 10 points tbh, especially as this is their second recent stint in administration!

Feel sorry for their fans, but to be honest, whilst this is not me being bitter about it, they effectively bought the FA Cup in 2008, whilst paying out ridiculous wages they could ill afford and I think they deserve to be relegated! :ayatollah:
