MANY ISSUES TO RESOLVE - BEGINNING OF THE END?

Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:13 am

So I read on message boards that Cardiff Blues will play the remainder of their games at CAP for this season, I am happy with that decision if it is indeed true, but there will be many issues to resolve this season before they even contemplate making it a permanent move away.

What will happen to those who bought duel season tickets?

What about the corporate boxes, will those who signed up at CCS be happy going back to CAP?

Compass catering, what will they feel about the switch?

What about stadium staff will this move lead to cuts in hours of work or possibly loss of jobs?

Are there Blues fans out there who wanted the move to CCS and bought a season ticket at CCS because of the step up in stadia?

Then there is the biggie, the rent for the next 17 years?

Personally I think as soon as they moved the game against Connacht, the Blues board put themselves in a very difficult position, once they made the move for one game the pressure would be incredible to make it permanent.

What are the answers for the Blues?

I think it's an excellent move and one that will keep our turf in tip top condition - or should.

As for your concerns above - I don't give a didly because once we've been promoted we won't need their rent, Compass can feck orf and we'll all be happy

Can you see the Malaysians turning down £700k a year for 17 years ?

I can't.

My take on this is that it was planned all along. I beleive the planning etc for the stadium was only granted with the Blues on board and it was never a long term thing. I wouldn't be surprised if the break clauses in the contract triggered very light 'early termination' fees relative to the 20 year agreement.

Happy for them to move back in to town and us to get our ground back. Remove all signs, re -fit club shop and get the pitch up to scratch. Let them use for big games as leicester do with a take of the reveune.

Reckon you could could the number of duo season tickets that were sold on one hand.

As you state Carl, the rent is just a part of things, Compass will be a huge stumbling block and the staffing situation thru from ticketoffice to ground staff etc.

Ok, so the agreement is, pay up the rent or pay off Langston for us :)

The Blues can f**k off, so can Compass, the robbing bastards.

The Blues have a legal contract with the CCS and if it says 500k per year then if they wont out that is what our owners will want from them to sever the contract.

Regarding ticket office staff seeing as no bugger watches the blues then i can't imagine that it'll make any difference to staffing levels. The club shop can only benefit as I see it-it has improved this year and with more floorspace it can only get better CCFC products-again this should mean no job losses.

The biggest pitfall will be the corporate side of things and compass-I suppose it all comes down to what has been written in contracts.

Best decision for both clubs... All the money issues will get sorted some how!

i suppose permanent staff wont be affected too much but match day staff will take a huge hit in some cases cutting the available work in half.

If they really want to go back to CAP then negotiate termination of the contract lets say 5m plus they continue to pay 20% of the running costs on that basis they can use the CCS for the big games but City take 40% of the gate. All this on the basis we can rebrand the CCS and have exclusive use of the Club shop when the Blues did play the big games at the CCS they could put up temporary branding and have use of a small section of the Club shop.

The pitch would benefit and the stadium would be ours and we could have Cardiff City FC and Bluebirds emblazoned on the seats. :ayatollah:

I want to see both teams successful and it was obvious from watching the Blues on TV last night that their fans are a lot happier back at CAP so something needs to be sorted, however the biggest obstacle to any amicable settlement is the Blues haven't got a pot to piss in and the funding they and all the other regions receive from the WRU is being reduced further next season :o

I would love to see the Blues leave, hate the stupid signs on our stadium.

From a business point of view it would be silly to just let them leave though, if the 700k is correct and they are paying 40% of the overheads at the club thats a sizeable amount of money that would come in very useful for the club.

In reality how much does the blues playing at the CCS effect me as a Cardiff fan? other than the weekly shudder of seeing the Blues badge on the stadium it doesnt at all effect me.

If its the difference betweening signing a Gunnarrson (150k) and a Mason (250k) every season then I know what my preference is....its a no brainer

Cardiff Blues are £5 million in debt. City won't get a penny. The other 3 regions are also in trouble. The only sensible thing to do is to liquidate all the regions. Replace with West Wales, East Wales and a Valleys team. Nobody likes regions. There is not enough of a fan base for four teams and there not enough quality players either.

Just let the egg-chasers go. Tear up the contract. Get rid of them. Get their logos off our stadium. Get their stuff out of the shop. Sort out the pitch. Good riddance.

Talking to Egg heads about this and this is there view. The WRU wanted the regions to help the National side. Due to the loss of all the big sides the supporters lost identity (A bit like the welsh Fa merging Cardiff Swansea and Newport) no one would support it except maybe some plastics as Rugby Fans have voted with there feet.
The WRU will not let the regions die so they will have to financially back the regions. The Blues will play more and more at the CAP but with help from the WRU will pay the rent due. But in the long run i can see the Blues being folded and starting up again as a different brand and they will owe the City f**k all. But hey the Eggs hate being in this position with a FOOTBALL Club IMO.
This is gonna go on and on

I've got to say that the rent issue doesn't really bother me. Most stadiums these days pay for themselves by hosting a number of other sporting or music events, in fact I'm surprised we haven't done it more. IF the Blues move back to CAP permanently, I think you'll see a big surge in events happening there throughout the summer time. The Jacks have had loads of concerts etc at the Liberty and it's never interfered with their pitch etc and that is still dual code too.

The CCS is just too big for the Blues and they must be losing so much money. I know when I worked for City/Blues, there were people stating that they needed between 10-12k per match to break even so obviously they must be losing a good wedge.

I can only see it being a good thing for us but as I say, the rent can be covered, all other issues I'm afraid are for the Blues to worry about
