Anthony Gerrard vs Darcy Blake

Who would you prefer to be playing at centre back and why?

Personally, I think Darcy's performances at centre back have always been solid. I don't really rate him as a full back or midfielder. Both he and Gerrard have terrible distribution but I think Blake just about edges it with agility, anticipation and positioning.

Same for me buddy, darcy just edges it for the same reasons pretty much

Gerrard did fine last night but the CB's werent really tested, most good work P'boro did came from wide.

Last night I would have played Blake personally as P'boro dont really play with a big man. Against Ipswich Id go with Turner and Keinan personally unless Hudson is back.

I'd take Blake or Keinan ahead of Gerrard if Hudson is out

Gerrard just doesn't have a footballing brain and his lack of pace is worrying. I know Hudson hasn't got pace but he reads the game so well, the players seem to look up to him and his distribution is a cut above Blake or Gerrard. I don't think it's any coincidence that our relatively poor spell lately has coincided with Hudson being out.

At least with Blake and Turner you would have pace to burn at CB.

One thing that worries me is that if Hudson isn't ready for Ipswich it would be a massive risk for him to play at Wembley for his first game back. An interesting dilemma for Malky

gerrard won absolutly nothing last night against peterborough, it was really worrying because they were even that big a side

Yeah, overall I would definitely have Turner and Hudson but in Hudson's absence I'd go for Blake over Gerrard. You are right though mate, Hudson's absence from the team has left the back a bit weaker.

we need hudson back asap this last month more or less without him we didnt look comfortable at the back hense only 1 win maybe??

i totally agree with this...

i do feel sorry for blake because every time he plays he has a decent game and gets dropped the next game most times malky cant like him that much but he can play in 4 positions so hes a great squad player and better than gerrard

Hudson is a massive loss,especially early on in the last couple of matches the back four ive noticed have looked disorganised and even resorted to squabbling among themselves.
I dont think we can totally blame Gerrard although i do believe Darcy is a better centre back then him,Taylor,Marshall,Turner and super kev even have looked shaky at times without hudsons leadership and reading of the game.
Im not so sure about keinan and i honestly believe malky would play kenny miller centre back before blake unfortunately

You don't have to be a colossus to play C/B but some height is useful but Darcy is only about 5'10", too short IMO so Gerrard for me.

Have you actually measured out 2" with your fingers!!! not alot is it? thats almost a 6ft player? I wouldn't say you'd have to be the big 6ft CH to be considered to be a certain replacement. There have been many shorter CH's over the years at many clubs. Positioning, good footballing head to read the game and a bit of pace is handy, I think in those attributes - He would have an advantage over Gerrard.

However, on the Hudson note, isn't it funny how everyone would slag him off, say he's useless etc etc makes mistakes occasionally (as all Defenders do!) But then realise that as soon as he goes missing and things dont quite look so rosey they want to see him return ASAP! We all know he's a leader both on and off the field, and I think its about time ALL city fans give him the respect he deserves. When Hudson and Turner are on form (and we've seen that a few times this season) they are formidable!

Darcy is a 7/10 player every game. Never more never less, and being 7/10 he's always had a good game but never has a memerable point that gets the fans talking after the game and since he's battling opinions straight away with his height he needs a dominating 5 games on the bounce to cement his place. At international level he doesn't have the carthorse forwards and finds it alot easier against the refined players of premiership/international standard.

I would go with him in the carling cup final and out him against suarez, and think he's twice the player Gerard is, but Darcy will only shine in the next level up when ironically it will be easier for him.

The next level hudsons pace will see him worse off as even rios not looking as good with his yard gone and he reads the ball very well! So Darcy and turner for when we get promoted.

It will get to a point at some stage where Malky will have to start rotating more anyway...... Especially if we are to stay fit and strong for the run in. f**k buying new players when we already have a capable bunch in the ranks already being paid good money to warm the bench and train!
