I think it was because the cars were parked in a dangerous position not just on yellow lines. In fact the cars parked on double yellow lines got off because he was concentrating on us!

That's a parking offence not a driving offence .. You shouldn't have points for that,
Unless your vehicle would obstruct emergency services or blatantly cause an accident then it's just a fine.

I have parked in this spot all season and just got unlucky last night as a copper was doing the rounds and must thought it was his lucky night when he saw all the cars parked up illegally. Only got myself to blame, but 3 points as well as the fine was a bit steep in my opinion. Was quite lucky in the end though because he had arranged recovery vehicles to tow the cars away and I arrived just as one of them turned up, so could have been worse.

Let us know how you get on with the appeal on the points side.

Had my court appearance today and had the magistrate stated that the offence listed on the summons was not endorsable so there would be no points on my licence. He said it was a good job I appealed, he also said I was lucky because the actual offence commited was endorsable but the court summons had quoted the wrong section number which was not endorsable, so basically an admin error of sorts. Cost me an extra £15 on top if the original £60 fine plus fuel and bridge toll but well worth it in the end.
