3 points for City and 3 points on my licence…

Wed Feb 15, 2012 2:27 pm

I got a £60 fine and 3 points on my licence last night for illegally parking on the verge of the slip road onto the Ely link road south last night. Police stopped and handed out several tickets, so be aware if you normally park in this area and weren’t at the game last night.

I have parked in this spot all season and just got unlucky last night as a copper was doing the rounds and must thought it was his lucky night when he saw all the cars parked up illegally  . Only got myself to blame, but 3 points as well as the fine was a bit steep in my opinion. Was quite lucky in the end though because he had arranged recovery vehicles to tow the cars away and I arrived just as one of them turned up, so could have been worse.

Why would you get 3 points on your licence, its only a fixed penalty for parking?

I don't understand why anyone risks getting a parking ticket by parking in places where they can get booked. There's loads of spaces around Grangetown, Canton and Riverside, even if you turn up 1/2 hour before kick off. Actually, no f**k off and keep getting booked to save all the spaces for us! :ayatollah:

I think it was because the cars were parked in a dangerous position not just on yellow lines. In fact the cars parked on double yellow lines got off because he was concentrating on us!

That's a parking offence not a driving offence .. You shouldn't have points for that,
Unless your vehicle would obstruct emergency services or blatantly cause an accident then it's just a fine.

I think he mentioned something about obstruction and risk of causing an accident, but that would be when moving on from where I was parked onto the slip road I guess? Where it was parked wouldn’t have caused any obstruction at all. I think I may appeal against the points and see what happens.

One of the perks of being a bus driver is I park in the bus depot..it's free and you don't get booked. ;)

They closed it last night, fencing up and sign road closed. I drove in, spun around and parked half on kerb and road facing the main rd. was fine there as was another 5 or 6 cars, no more room.

Got a feeling they are tarmac-ing and redoing out the car park as a pay and display they've seen the amount of cars in there all afternoon and are looking to cash in is my guess.

However plenty of places to park in canton in the streets and up top of sanatorium rd on the industrial est. Just make sure you're not in a MATCH DAY "no parking street - there will be signs up!

Parked at the ground last night for first time lot cheaper than the last 2 midweek games where I've had two parking fines.

Never understood why people risk it. We have always parked in Canton, never a problem, quick drink then just a little walk to the ground. After the game the walk back allowes the traffic to clear, all sorted, no fines, no problems :ayatollah:

I know a way that you can possibly avoid the points but not the fine. Inbox me. :ayatollah:

Had my court appearance today and had the magistrate stated that the offence listed on the summons was not endorsable so there would be no points on my licence. He said it was a good job I appealed, he also said I was lucky because the actual offence commited was endorsable but the court summons had quoted the wrong section number which was not endorsable, so basically an admin error of sorts. Cost me an extra £15 on top if the original £60 fine plus fuel and bridge toll but well worth it in the end.

They can give you 3 points if you are parked in a dangerous spot?
