A year ago, I would have been happy for Scotland to draw Wales in the qualifiers, now with the games coming up I'm really not confident. Not that I base that on the FIFA rankings which I have no real faith in.

How did Wales get to 42 if we haven't played yet? How did Wales drop down when we beat Norway 4-1? What a shambles the rankins are.

goes on amount of games played as well and who you play , the n that tallies up on a point system dont get it to be honest , needs a whole reshuffling of the system but cant complain come on Wales

Thats how good we are. Going up after not even playing!
Its actually because some teams above us lost in their last friendlies or African cup of nations matches

Fair enough but beating Norway 4-1 who I believe are above us, surely must be a good result?

Points you gained 4 years ago gradually drop off your points total. As we hardly gained any points until the last 6 months our points total largely remains the same, whereas teams who gained a lot of points 4 years ago are now losing them so unless they've gained recent points to compensate, they will drop down. This, in my opinion is as good a system as we're going to get as it does benefit those that have been in good form over the last year. If we can carry on winning for the rest of this year we could be in to the top 30.

Friendlies dont carry anywhere near as much weight as competitive matches no matter who they are against.

there are about 4 factors with the rankings and its based on your last 4 years worth of results.
every year the value of the win drops from 50% to 25% to 10% to nothing....
so in this case as an example we may of beaten norway and got 50 points, but our win vs TEAM A 12 months ago is now worth 50% less and our win 4 years ago vs team B is not worth nothing so we could techinally lost points overall.
its a good and fair system if you know how it works. theres also the aspect of qualifiers worth more than friendlies, norway was only a friendly.

Ah right fair enough, thanks for explaining.

thats how it works, whether i think i like it is different.
where its floored in a way is that the asian teams african teams etc play each other more and not other teams around the world so iran will be high ranked as they have the wins under there belt but only due to playing lesser teams, they get less points for it but still get the points

Arguably we can say we are better than the best team in Africa!

At first glance they don't really make sense - us dropping down after winning and going up after not playing
