Press Complaints Commision

Tue Feb 14, 2012 7:26 pm

Sorry to bring this up, but at the time of Mike Dye passing, some of the so called journalism was sensationalist in the extreme, although some of you may think it was none of my business, the initial reporting of Swansea fans being involved was inflamatory and some of the other stories were careless to say the least, including them taking messages that he had posted on here.

Anyway, here is the reply I recieved today:-

I am writing further to your correspondence with the Press Complaints Commission in regard to coverage of the death of Michael Dye.

As I explained previously, at the time of Mr Dye’s death we proactively contacted his family through the appropriate authorities to make them aware of the PCC and our services. As a result, Mrs Nathalie Dye, Mr Dye’s widow, made formal complaints to the Commission against the Daily Mail and The Sun.

These complaints have now been resolved. The Daily Mail removed coverage from Mail Online about which Mrs Dye had raised concerns and published an apology to the family with the following articles that remain online:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ailed.html
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... mbley.html
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... adium.html
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... mbley.html
In addition it wrote to Mrs Dye privately about this matter.

The complaint against The Sun was resolved on the basis of a private apology by the newspaper to Mrs Dye for having caused her upset.

The outcome of both complaints are recorded on the PCC website here:
http://www.pcc.org.uk/news/index.html?article=NzY2MQ== (The Sun)
http://www.pcc.org.uk/news/index.html?article=NzY2Mg== (Daily Mail)

Thank you for writing to us about this matter. Please do not hesitate to contact us again in future if you think we may be able to assist you.

With best wishes,

As I said, sorry to bring it up, my initial reaction was the way they reported on Swans fans being involved, then I was further annoyed at the way they carried on the irresponsible reporting without back tracking on their initial reports. Then, using his quotes off here was just wrong in so many ways. Thought I would share that they finally did get back to me, if this doesn't belong on here, then Mods, feel free to remove obviously.

The PCC have basically let the gutter press get away with posting lies about Mikey Dye and crap that could have caused further problems between CCFC and the Jacks.

Since the tragedy i have hardly purchased a paper and hope that many others on here have taken similar action.
