A few of us had a debate today, not considering the death and drug abuse but her about her in her prime.
Question is....
Has anyone ever had a better voice than her in her prime?
We couldn't come up with anyone close tbh.
Lots of entertainers with good voices who put on a show but for voice alone?

I have been sent 2 jokes today, but if I post them it will almost certainly close the thread

and by the way f**k all sympathy for her!

I've seen plenty of jokes.
No sympathy either, but I was asking about the voice.

got 3 in drafts in my phone on stand by. You know what the f*cking mods are like on here though

Never saw her live, but I have seen Elkie Brooks live loads of times and she's been awesome every time!
Alison Moyet is also superb live and whilst I haven't seen Shirley Bassey live, I'd imagine she'd have been better than Whitney and I took the wife to see Dolly last year (no, not the sheep

) and she was also superb!
I've also seen Tima Turner live and she'd have given Whitney a run for her money as well!
I suppose it depends on what kind of music rocks your boat, but you clearly like all the slushy stuff, whilst I like a big variety!

Tbh I'm not talking live as not lucky enough to see many live. The best I've seen live is Sir Tom and if I got the chance to see Whitney or Sir Tom live it would still be Tommy Jones
But he has a different kind of voice.
It's hard to explain on here but I mean for purity, power and vocal range I can't think of anyone better. I don't think anyone could ever copy her songs and be in the same league.
Interesting you metion Dolly as she has to be one of the most underrated people in the music world, so talented. I feel because she has the big boobs, sweaky voice she doesn't get the credit

diana ross, aretha franklin, madonna

I was considering these options until you said madonna
I'm happy except people find her a better performer or artist, each to there own but never ever ever a better or purer voice surely?

I saw Dolly in the CIA last year and she sang superbly, but she talked too much!
I'd have to say that Elkie has got the best voice of all the female vocalists I've seen live, but Alison Moyet wasn't far behind, along with Sharleen Spitteri of Texas & Carol Decker of Tpau!
Would have loved to have seen Dusty Springfield live and Dionne Warwick in her Heyday, but although I haven't seen her live either, I'd have to say that Celine Dion would be a better singer than Whitney!
Tue Feb 14, 2012 12:46 am
My sister seen whitney after her prime and said she was awful and it's well documented she apologised for her recent awful performances. I'm so glad I never went to see her.
Dolly I can imagine
Celine Dion is the best name to question it I've seen so far in terms of what I mean
Tue Feb 14, 2012 12:53 am
Going to see Laura Pausini (Look her up, as she's awesome and stunning

), at the Albert Hall in May and keeping an eye out to see if Sarah Brightman tours again!
IMO, they'd both knock spots off Whitney as singers!
Tue Feb 14, 2012 12:55 am
I will look them up when on the laptop along with a few you mentioned.
I struggle to believe anyone can come close to signing this song as well as Whitney
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9nPf7w7 ... ata_playerIMO its perfect
Tue Feb 14, 2012 12:58 am
adele
Tue Feb 14, 2012 1:03 am
It's Dolly's song though and if you'd have heard her sing it first, you might have thought that Dolly sang it better!

I like adele but no way IMO no where near for me.
A live performance from Whitney, dodgy start but what a finish
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hM_vSQL ... ata_playerThis is the standard I'm wanting to hear with clips of YouTube, and no way was adeles performance or any of her performances close to a pure voice like that, not for me anyway.

She's very good, but not as good as Celine Dion, Sarah Brightman, Laura Pausini, Elkie Brooks or Alison Moyet!

Now now
Just listened to te Jennifer Hudson tribute, sang it well but shows how hard that song is to sing.
Thing is we can't say it's a loss because we won't have any more music by her amazing voice as that died years and years ago. Certainly enjoy what she did in her prime.
I think your right above tho, I like a slushy song

Quality pairing in fairness andrea bocelli is my fav tenner, amazing voice.
For me though she lacks warmth and something in the voice, I dunno.
Still one I'll covert to mp3
Tue Feb 14, 2012 1:35 am
http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri= ... fctYr1v1ygThis is a better one of them singing together IMO, but there's loads of clips of her singing with Celine Dion, Bocelli, Pavarotti and even Phil Collins on YouTube, but I can't find my favourite one of her singing "You'll never find," with Michael Buble!
Tue Feb 14, 2012 1:38 am
I used to have a brilliant clip of the three tenners, below is the best one I could find. The one I had before was much better quality and you could see them takin the piss out each other

brilliant still
