Joe Ledley!!

Sat Feb 11, 2012 10:39 pm

Alright folks, new to the forum :D

Been a lurker on here since I came down your place....but after the last month or so I have to ask what happened with Ledley at Cardiff and how was he allowed to leave on a bosman? The guy started of well with us, but recently he's really stepped it up...the guy is awesome. Future Celtic captain is the talk here and he is quickly getting legendary status here. Lennon has our midfield workinng as hard as i've ever seen, he is heading away corners then scoring/setting up goals 30 seconds later.

The guy is Cardiff daft, if it was the other way around and we let a true celt of his quality go on a bosman there would be war here. What happened?

it will happen to you when is contract is nearly up. why sign a new contract and have all the money ,around £5mill is the value he was being touted at go to the club when you can run your contract down and pick all the money up between the player and agent shafting another club.

Joe got shafted big time by the club, Peter Ridsdale in particular. I know 100% that Joe didnt want to leave and was in tears by the way hr got treated by his boyhood club.

He is loving it here but he has spoken about Cardiff a fair bit in our magazines etc and you can tell how much he feels for the club. We are trying to extend his contract already, i'd break the bank for him. I know you probably don't rate us going by the group of your fans I drank with, but it will only be good for Wales. He's playing in formiruthless midfield just now, proper class on the bench, so he could be out the side any week and it's shown recently. Not sure what kind of role he plays for wales but i'm sure you will reep the benifits. And if he ever goes back, the way he talks I imagine he will want to, you will have class player. My fear is a top 6 epl side wanting him

He's playing in a mediocre league. If he wants to prove & test himself then he has to head to the Premiership. I genuinely don't believe City have missed him. He seems content to compete against the ICT's & Pars whuch suggests a lack of ambition in my book. Easy money though.

The standard isn't great I know, but he is playing in very good side just now (16 wins in a row) and better players than Ledley have failed in Glasgow. You have to win every game and trophy, even in the Champions League we expect to beat everyone at home, it's not easy and very high preassure.

I don't want to lose him, but like I said I think he will return....and when he does i'll bump this thread and you can all tell me i'm right :D

No offence but Rangers have dominated up here in recent years and it's taken a major crisis at Ibrox for Celtic to start "competing" with them again. Even at the start of the season fans wondered if Lennon was the right man for the job having had long enough to put a stamp on the team. One of the Old Firm's problems is they still expect to beat everyone at home including in Europe when the truth is you aren't as good as many of these teams and when you do crash in Europe(more often than not) it's treated as the death knell for Scottish football once again. Granted you do pull of some results, but your own pressure does your teams no favours.

Is he playing in a very good side or is he playing against some very poor sides? I've seen Aberdeen play Rangers, Hibs, St. Johnstone, Inverness & Dundee United and they have been some of the worst team displays I think I've ever witnessed. There is more fight in the current Clydebank team whose weekly wage together is less than most SPL players weekly packet and there is much more entertainment for my fiver.

Back to topic  there is no doubting Joe is a good player and I've seen his articles in the Record etc about his time at Cardiff & feelings for the club. for the sake of his career, he needs to challenge himself at higher standard - only then will we know how good he is.

Can't disagree with much of that, the game is dying up here but we are here and there is nothing we can do about it apart from being the best we can. When celtic or rangers have met english sides in europe they have done pretty well...you could say they raise their game but i'm not sure. There has been some world class players in both sides in recent years and I can see the same level in this side. Average age was 23 at hearts, there is a real buzz in the support and team like the MON years.......so back to topic again haha, yeah I think Ledley is playing in a good young fit powerfull team irrespective of the opposittion, and he is still a stand out and getting better by the game, as they all are :D

What happend with him?

The best way I could describe matthews is a good clean tidy player, well rounded and mature for his age....would like to see him stay as long as possible, he will only get better.

Joe, like some others, were victims of a regime at the club who did not value their assests.

The way that Ridsdale and Jones between them managed to cock-up so many contracts was unreal.

In my mind it's simple, if you want a player to stay for the long term then start contract negotiations at least 12 months before their contract expires. If you feel the players demands are unrealistic given the financial status of the club, sell them rather than letting them go for free. The fans understand that position.

People may argue that for some players it's worth the risk of letting them go on a free as they could be key to the success of the team. I don't buy that. History dictates that when a player has chosen to go on a free you will never see the best of him. We have so many examples of where this has happended. Joe was one. Bothroyd another.

Jones and Ridsdale also made the mistake into thinking Joe would sign for someone in England thus getting compensation. Stupid idiots.

It was a tragedy that he left us, in my opinion.

Cardiff born and bred and scored the goal that got us to the FA Cup Final. Need I say more?

That's what ma made me get an account on here, i always thought he was decent when i seen him at Cardiff and when he came here, but recently he really raised it and is even Scoring BIG goals in big games! Like Lennon says, he seems a right family man and not interested with the celebrity status that comes with it... If he ever leaves I only want it to be to Cardiff, no-one could blame him...losing him to an EPL or european team would be hard to take :)

Ledley is a big game player. Scored in FA Cup Semi, Jacks @ Liberty, Play Off Final etc. When he was appointed captain, we went on a 16 game unbeaten streak.

My favourite City player ever. Glad to see him doing so well, but gutted its for Celtic. :ayatollah:

Sorry mate haha ;) but on the positive, if/when he goes back you will have an even better player imo.

Joe would come home in a blink of an eye and the reality is that when Joes contract was up Celtic was the only offer on the table for him.

Around the time it was reported that Roma and someone else had offered him more. He is loving his football, but like I said no real fan can hold a grudge for a player wanting to play for the team he loves.

Thats true to a sense but it was Celtic that was the only real offer for him, Ive no quarms with Joe being at Celtic as its a wonderful club. Like most I hate all the shite that goes on with the fans but thats nothing to do with Joe going there and yeah he is happy but if he had the opportunity to come home he would, thats the nature of the beast to want to be home.

The other stuff is a social issue that shows itself through the football, the powers here should be educating kids from a school age about the dangers and ridiculous nature of it all. Blaming the clubs is just a way of looking like they are doing something, whilst in actual fact, doing nothing.

Money is the only barrier i'd say, I have no idea what he could be worth now? Some of our other midfield players are banded around the 8-10 million mark, and Ledley is one of the better ones....

Totally agree buddy, yeah seems a fair assesment on Joes value. Unless we make it to the promised land I doubt whether we'd be able to compete wage wise. Anyway he's back in my City FIFA12 team along with Rambo  Its a good start for me :ayatollah:
