Serious question for Swansealad69, Scotsjack, NJ73

Sat Feb 11, 2012 8:11 pm

I'm honestly not taking the piss but i'd like to know your genuine opinions.
I have noticed this season that the teams you have struggled against most this season besides Man City, are Norwich and QPR (the two teams who came up from the championship)

I commented earlier in the season to my mate that this would be the case and i think a lot of premier league managers are not worth their salt. Though you have proved that you are a good side this season, i can't believe the way some managers set their teams out to play against you! At your place last year dave jones seemed to finally work out how to play you (with the help of aaron ramsay and craig bellamy) but do you think that if more managers did their homework that you would be able to adapt your game to beat them?

I've noticed that the teams that do better against the Jacks are the teams which dont underestimate them. Look at Manchester United and Arsenal, they wrote Swansea off before the ball was even kicked and the jacks nearly taught Man Utd a lesson and instead got punished by a defensive error and then Swansea even managed to punish Arsenal as well.

QPR and Norwich are aware of how dangerous the Jacks can be when they are on their day and, having played against them in the championship, already knew their strengths and weaknesses and how to play against them. Man City on the other hand? They were after a flying start and were out to prove a point and there isnt a better way to do that than to demolish a team. They've been doing it all season to anyone.

I think the Jacks will stay up purely because of the way they play. Yes it isnt overly attacking and yes the focus is on possession but if teams keep over looking what they are capable of then they will keep picking up points.

I wouldn't say we have struggled against QPR. We've only played them once and drew 1-1 after a defensive lapse.

Most teams do exactly what your lot did last season in trying to stop us playing out from the back by putting men on our centre backs to try and stop the short distribution but then we get the likes of Britton, Allen etc coming short for it and working angles.

In other words, it not that they don't try, it's that we are usually able to play out regardless.

Against Norwich today, the battle was lost in midfield.

One thing i will say that it's rare that you lose a game in midfield. i watched the qpr game and i thought second half they bossed the game. i'm just taking the piss saying that as i will concede that you dominated far better teams than qpr. But it does seem to me that the managers who came out of the championship like colin warnock and lambert are far more successful against you.

Count your blessings though, if bluebird1977 was a jack he'd prob be calling for rogers head tonight!

We started with MacEachren in midfield today as Allen and Augustein were both injured and he was far too lightweight against a big, strong Norwich side who bullied us for most of the game.

At the end we came very close to snatching a point, but it would have been harsh on Norwich.

C'mon lads i've asked a genuine football question and to be fair i've had a few genuine answers. If i'm honest its a change from reading how the world is gonna end every time we lose a game!

Sober now, tbh, Norwich came to the Liberty yesterday with the right attitude, we didn't have the time we usually have on the ball and they took their chances. No complaints about the result, yet we almost sneaked a point right at the death. Just oner of those days. There are other examples, Blackburn done a job on us, Norwich away, and against QPR, we were having a little dip as Everton away at the same time was probably the worst performance I have seen from us this season.

We missed Joe Allen badly yesterday, McEachran just didn't quite click and Britton and Siggurson had to work harder at clearing up rather than doing their normal jobs on the pitch. Once Norwich had sussed out our weak link they took advantage of it. But there we go, all credit to Norwich, at the start of the season I thought ourselves and Norwich would be struggling all year, as it stands neither of us are.

As for teams working us out, I had the same worries last season but Brendan switched things about, maybe that's what he's trying now and it'll take us a few games to gel? Maybe?

Anyway, I'm on my way up to Cardiff now for the rugby, so not only did I watch the Swans get beat yesterday, I'm now heading up with my lad who supports Wales so that I can (probably) watch Scotland get stuffed, all in all, not a great weekend to be a Scottish Swans fan :(
