A forum for all things Cardiff City

I am not one to criticise for the sake of it, and certainly think there is no need for panic, but there are a few things that have bothered me in the last couple of matches, those things came to fruition yesterday,I would,nt say that our lack of signings had any thing to with the loss yesterday, although it would have been good to have some reel quality on the bench. I think that teams are starting to work us out, we seem to be a one man band up front, Miller had 2 players on him at all times yesterday therefore harising him to stop him getting good balls, and when he did get it , how many times were we lacking bodies in the penalty area in support. And then there is our midfield, a whiley old fox like Holiway crowded us out in the centre of the park yesterday, how many balls did we actually win from balls thumped from Marshall they seemed to win most of the balls, and then turn it into quick attack, I think they out played yesterday, and outfought us to, this should be a lesson to be learnt by management, players and supporters, it,s been a good ride so far, third in the league, a cup final, I think we need to look at a few things in our style of play, nothing drastic, just tweak a few things. yesterday was a bad day, nothing we can,t recover from, I just don,t want to end up like the end of season finishes of the last couple of years, OK we are further than we expected,BUT the management have made that happen, and in many way,s they and the players have built up our expectations, so I don,t feel guilty about wanting more. It seems that after saying that I don,t often criticise, then that is what I seem to have done, but hope it does,nt look like citicism, but in some ways it reminde me of Jones team last year on occasions.

I'd give this a go
Marshall
Huds. Turner. Gerrard
Kev. Taylor
Cowie Whitts gunner
Miller. Mason
Attacking wing backs, they both love getting forward, and we've got quality central midfield options, this may add some width but keep a solid defence, would work better with better aerial threat in the box tho.

Is it only methat thinks McNaughton has been very poor in this new role this season. He goes past people fine but then inevitably givesthe ball away and is then caught out of position which forces Cowie to be the right back instead of being the supply route down the right. It happens every single game and turns our attack into defence constantly. He's a great defender so please Malky play him as one. At the moment imo he's not worth his place in the team. Wasn't nice to see Gerrard and Marshall bickering again yesterday either. I think we looked mentally tired and devoid of ideas yesterday but credit to Blackpool their game plan worked perfectly and I was never confident even after we scored. Just one of those days I guess but I agree that the signs have been there for a few games now. Whitts is totally ineffective at present as he's being stifled as soon as he gets the ball and sadly he doesnt have the pace to be able to be more direct. Perhaps a change of formation is due now Malky?

Not sure how you can say Kadeem would terrorise, we haven't seen him yet, watching him on youtube running past players in the Wycombe youth setup is one thing, the championship is quite another!

no mate its not only you. Kev is a brilliant defender but an appalling footballer. He never ever delivers a good final ball and 9 times out of 10 it goes out for a goal kick.
I think right full back is one of the main positions we need to strengthen. Kev is a great servant to the club but i cant help thinking if we had hoyte from boro we would be a far better team and he would be far more suited to our team

i agree with both of you and thought it very strange that a man who cannot pass the ball was our player of the year.

I'm a relieved man as thought I was on my own on this one

Don't get me wrong, I think Kev is a quality defender but as an attacking wing back he is hopeless... Can't fault his lack of effort in that role but he leaves us far too exposed at the back when he gets stuck upfield. It also puts too much responsibility on Cowie to track back instead of helping out up top where he is more effective. Malky needs to look at this and maybe give Darcy a run of games as Kev is being substituted on a fairly regular basis now.
