SINCE WHEN DID GETTING PROMOTED...

Sat Feb 04, 2012 6:32 pm

...become a demand and expectation for City fans?

I mean most of us have never seen City in the top flight yet some, well loads in fact, especially on here,
seem to think its our divine right to be in the Premier League? WTF?! :? :o

You cant even blame the jonny come latelys, Annis has been around since god was a boy and seen some really ropey times
but he is as bad as anyone when it comes to over reacting.

Personally I couldnt care if we get promoted or not. Football isnt about that for me. What 35 yo with a 2 young children its my main source of socalising these days and Il do that wether it be in either Premier - Barclays or Blue Square.

I started supporting City in the basement in 92 and seen some goid times and really bad. We have been in this league for 9 years and its a good division. plenty of big clubs and outside the top 6 in the prem the rest is not much different really.

Leeds , Forest, West Ham , Boro, Brum they are as big if not bigger clubs than Qpr, Wigan, Wolves, Bolton, Jack Bastards.

If we make it fantastic, if we dont so what. I dont demand PL football and I dont know how anyone supporting City pre 2001 can either :? Post Sam and post Fa cup fans I can put down to ignorance but those pre 2001 should take a long hard look at themselves before slating the lads after a defeat or even a draw in some cases.

DJ gets blamed for a lot of things and one you can add to the list is turning our fans
into a bunch of ungrateful, expectant, demanding, deluded arseholes.

Totally disagree, my experience of speaking to people is that the older people are way more negative and demanding than the newer fans.

You can go off these young fans very quickly.

Mate, one of the joint best men in my weddin was someone I met 20 years ago at 16 following city.

We become best mates through following City and are best mates to this day. Were it not for suporting City I wouldnt have met a lifelong pal.

Ive got one or two childhood mates who dont follow city but in the main my circle of pals are all City fans

Thats what it is all about for me. socialising with your pals. who will be the same pals wether we are watching City play ManchesterUnited or Macclesfield Town.

Somewhere along the line I think a lot if City fans have lost sight if this and winnig become the be all and end all.

Well not this group of City fans. I speak on behalf of all my mates wen I say friendship and camaraderie is
more important than wat division we are in.

Backing your local side through thick and thin is what its all about for me,Last week we booked a massive trip to wembley, today we lost to Blackpool ,certainly not the end of the world

Polo,

Lets not go down the DJ topic as I slaughter you every time on it.

But lets be serious now.

I would of been happy to have been 10th in Malky's first season after having to virtually rebuild our team. But we have managed to be in the top 6 for 905 of the season so far, in fact nearly going 2nd at one stage. Once you are up there, why not want more and expect more. If Malky had strengthened I honestly feel we would go up this season, but we haven't so I feel we have wasted a golden opportunity. We have £3 mill from the Cup, plus a rich board, surely we should of strengthened and gone for it now that we are there.

Yes I feel its been an amazing season so far,but why not as a fan want to finally now go up as we are so near to it. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Polo, We spent 9 years in the 4th Division, I went to Hartlepool and Darlington away 7 times each, so now I see glory and I want it more than ever. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Correct, if we had 3 relegations I would still renew my season ticket. I have done for 39 consecutive seasons and in fact if we were relegated I would want to be there even more. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: SINCE WHEN DID GETTING PROMOTED...

It does feel like we have been punching above our weight, so far. It was depressing watching Miller today, labouring away up front on his own, until Mason (our man of the match, imo) came on. And then witnessing the class with which their strikers ripped our back four apart. We simply ca'nt compete with the fire power some of the teams around us have got.
£800,000 FOR Matt Phillips, Malky, you're having a laugh.

Re: SINCE WHEN DID GETTING PROMOTED...

This "punching above our weight" comment has been labelled at City teams for the last five or six seasons now, & i beginning to get tired of it.
When will we get to our optimum weight then?

When we play as well as Blackpool did today and Southampton did on tuesday. It was freightening today when you could see the calibre of striker's, on their bench. Big names with big hearts.

problem is that recent seasons we have done really well and been on the verge of promotion under the man that should not be named (no not voldemort :l) most fans feel that we should be always challanging at the top and get promotion,
i am NOT one of them new squad basically new manager new everything it takes time to get back to the recent leauge postions under you know who ;) but malky have done wonders and so have the players to show heart and passion which i know most fans say lacked under you know who, but come what may at end of season im still there im still supporting the boys i still believe and i still have faith :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

However wether we go up or not i will still be there because that's what supporting your Club is all about and although we were poor today there haven't been many poor performances this Season and we should all remember that :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: SINCE WHEN DID GETTING PROMOTED...

So what if the Jacks have been promoted that still doesnt give us the divine right to EXPECT promotion.

Re: SINCE WHEN DID GETTING PROMOTED...

Sun Feb 05, 2012 9:30 am

No long serving fan of our great club "expects" anything of of our team, except perhaps hard work & the sheer will to win, well i certainly don't, anyway. But i understand Wolf's sentiment,,,having felt it myself,,,,lets hope there's not a third time.
Finally, lets remind ourselves of the last time we were in the top flight division, 1961, we were relegated two months before i was born, & Swansea was a "real" town then.
It's a long time. :old:

Great post and fully agree 100% - I also started following city in 1992, against Blackpool in a 1-1 DRAW! Own goal I think was ours, a header! Highs and big lows ever since, I said to my city mates the other day, I would actually miss the Championship, thats how much getting promoted means to me. Some excellent teams in the division and we are in the main winning more than we lose. Now of course I would be delighted if we did go up but as per expected, no chance! This team have performed amazing to actually give us a reasonable shot at it. Our chairman and money backers are fully backing city, running it for once on a sensible ship. Yes extra money made from the cup but as I understand it they have been putting in 1million each month for running costs. Turner 850k, Miller 900k Mason 250k plus some excellent Bosman transfers means they have backed Malky. Also no secret we bid 3m for Sordell! These are by far the best times in supporting city since 1992 (Much longer before my time) so lets enjoy the ride and for once a season of no pressure!
