Could play for Wales if Coleman contacts him.

Re: Ben Turner

As much as i like Turner, he's english at the end of the day so therefor shouldn't play for Wales. Same as that english jack prick Ashley Williams.

Re: Ben Turner

Fri Feb 03, 2012 8:19 pm

I would much rather fully Welsh players play for Wales but that's not the world we live in. Turner is a great defender and would be perfect with the likes of Gabbidon and James Collins coming to the ends of their careers.

Re: Ben Turner

Fri Feb 03, 2012 8:40 pm

Ask any Republic of Ireland fan if they cared where the players during the 90's came from
most will say what a craic
so if he wants to play for Wales it can only be a good thing surely :?: :ayatollah:

As much as I agree, unfortunately this is a problem we will be facing for many years to come, we are not the only nation to have this problem however, look at Scotland and Ireland, even look at some of the bigger nations such as France and Italy (Vieira, Makelele, Trezeguet, Desailly, etc were not born in France!), unfortunately this is part and parcell of modern international football (I say modern but look back to the Jack Charlton era with Ireland, there were very few Ireland born internationals within that team!).

We've got two options, select Welsh born players only or welcome players with Welsh ancestry? In an ideal world we would be in a position to select only Welsh-born players without sacrificing the overall quality of the team, unfortuantely we do not have that luxury! Wales would be foolish not to add Turner to the squad, the squad is not deep enough! We cannot afford to fall behind the rest of the world!

One other thing, this problem isn't exclusive to football either, look at the English Cricket and Rugby teams! You'll also see during the Olympics in the summer, look at the numbers of non-British athletes representing Britain!

Not really. Earnies qualification is through residential, that is he has been in Wales for many years before being selected. Williams only got selected when he moves to Swansea I think just like turner would be.

Cant say I agree we should have Turner. I've never been an advocate of this grandparent thing, parents yes but before that no. Residential qualification I do agreed with but it should be a time period of say 6 years.

Some people need to grow up honestly, no matter what country they're orginally from they were the jersey and that is that.

If our current squad was made up of pure Welsh people and not English or any other country, then this would be the squad...

Darcy Blake
James Collins
Chris Gunter
Adam Matthews
Neil Taylor
Joe Allen
Gareth Bale
Joe Ledley
Aaron Ramsey
David Vaughan
Craig Bellamy

11 players, we wouldn't even have a goalkeeper.

Shows how much other nations contribute to the squad, no matter what nationality or club they play for, whether they are a Jack or something else, I will support them on the day because they are playing for my country. :) :ayatollah:

Re: Ben Turner

Are we that xenophobic now? If they have a relation to Wales be it having lived here for a prolonged period or have Welsh relatives and they want to play for Wales then f**k it. It's if they don't give 100% that I have an issue with and that goes for the Welsh born as well as the non-Welsh born.

As someone pointed out, we live in such a trans-global world now that restricting players to the country they were born in is unrealistic. If they have some connection to Wales, want to play for us and give 100% when they play... what other criteria do you want???

Why on earth is Ashley Williams a prick?

Maybe you should find out a bit more about the guy before making such ridiculous statements.

It's sad really that people can't take off their blue tinted glasses long enough to see the good work a Welsh international is doing but would rather just call him a prick because he plays for Swansea.

Not, not sad. Pathetic.

Personally, I think he's an excellent player, but I don't really know about what he does off the pitch. If does things like the link you posted, then great. But I'm not really bothered.

Hardly kicking up such a fuss really was it. Merely pointing out that I got castigated by Castleblue for a throw away comment yesterday while I get personally abused on here all the time.

As I said, water off a ducks back to me.

Williams gives his all for Wales no doubt but overall he has been truly awful for Wales, mistake after mistake, amazing considering Hartson says he is one of the prems finest defenders

The jacks defensive record sadly doesnt lie. Dont like him but you cant knock him. Rather see him at the back than ginge or Gabbs!

Oh yeah, just checked but didn't check last night. But still, 12 players, its nothing really, the English borm players are still vital to the squad.
