Brenda and swans board at war

Fri Feb 03, 2012 12:00 am

They blocked his offer for Bennett after everything was agreed.
He instead signed for Norwich.

Rogers says he understand why and doesn't agree. Seems the trust has been lost now.
Has he signed the new deal yet?

You can't blame him.
Norwich showing a lot more ambition and brenda clearly fuming at the board and for once I have to agree with him.

Not signed yet

The problem with Bennett came about not long after Spurs signed a central defender, then Caulker tweeted something about Summer being interesting, then the Bennett deal fell through. Now, this is all guesswork, but maybe the board think we have a chance of keeping Caulker and Rodgers doesn't? Therefore, they are holding the money back for the Summer?

Either way, it's not ideal but I would imagine stuff like this (the manager and the board having different opinions) happens at every single club up and down the country.

Interesting.

Surely Rodgers would decide over Caulker and Bennett though. After all Rodgers has achieved you would think the board would back him with a transfer which initially is minimal for the prem. I read they may not have liked the add ons but surely add ons are only applicable if a player does well hence the increase in price.

IMO Bennett is an brilliant signing for Norwich.

I don't know anything about an offer from Spain but...disappointed, no doubt. On the other hand, the Martinez saga has made us a bit more hard hearted than we once were.

I agree that Bennett is a good signing, would love to have had him. As for Rodgers deciding over Caulker and Bennett, what I mean is that the board think we may be able to get him permanently but Rodgers doesn't. Harry Redknapp keeps mentioning that he's a great prospect, then buys replacement defenders. Who knows? I've had a few beers and I'm just guessing.

No probs, it's what a forum is for :ayatollah:
I'd think he would want both if he is building to go forward.

Only thing certain is Brenda is not happy at all

The board were quite right. No fee had been agreed with Peterborough but the player was on his way here for a medical while negotiations were still taking place (all this while we were playing Chelsea remember). The player had a call to say turn around and go to Norwich as Norwich had offered more than our proposed deal.

Norwich have agreed a deal with Peterborough worth £4.5m. I am very happy our board decided that price was too high for a young player who has not played above Championship level.

As a club, we are not yet in a position to take punts like that. Certainly not until our Premier League place is secured for another season.

As for the comments on Rodgers, he was obviously disappointed as he wanted the player and would have probably thought the deal was being done. But to say the trust has been lost now is nonsense as Rodgers said "I won't dwell on it. I make my point on why I think we should have done it and then I move on."

There will be far better value available in the summer anyway as the January market is overpriced.

Like it or not generally football fans take an interest in local rivals.
