" ITS FUNNY HOW THINGS HAVE TURNED OUT "

Sun Jan 29, 2012 7:43 pm

The Malaysians wanted Alan Shearer as our manager, but Shearer turned us down at the last minute. They even shunned Malky for Shearer.
Gethin Jenkins and Alan Whitley chose Malky, no one else.He was chosen by Jenkins as he wanted someone not so well known and not being some ones runaround like he was for Dave Jones.
I admit I could not stand Jenkins as I believe he was not the man for us,which proved later he was not, but fair play, he chose by accident Malky and I have to say thank you Gethin Jenkins. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I wonder how we would of done under Alan Shearer ?

Annis you know I would have taken Shearer in a heartbeat but right now I thank god we left him talking bullshit on the BBC.

think we would have been bottom half with shearer. I was pissed off with Malky, thought the club had no ambition but i am so glad Malky proved me wrong :ayatollah:

gary lineker turned his head at the last minute with a box of salt and vinegar crisps also garys missus said she dident want a geordie tosser in charge of her beloved bluebirds
in all seriousness though he did not believe that with the level of debt the club had at the time that they would give him the backing he wanted in the transfer market.
The malaysians wanted him because of his name and how it would give the club a bigger profile in malaysia. 7 months on malky has achieved that by getting us to the final

The only reason Shearer was in the frame was due to what happened on the day that Chops was sold to Ipswich.

Lets not forget the input which Bellers made to the owners after the season had fininshed :ayatollah:

To be fair to Shearer that's not that unreasonable. Nobody would expect a team to be able to come as far as Cardiff have based on mostly free transfers.

annis out of all the applicants malky was the only one who turned up with a dossier with a plan to take the club forwards and achieve the premier league in three years. It was a case of what he could do for the club as oppossed to the likes of de matteo who had the attitude of what could the club do for me.
he was far and away the most proffesional in his interview and as it turned out a no brainer.

i still believe someone turned his head between agreeing to sign at 11pm one night and pulling out 4 hours later or quite simply he did not have the stomach for the job because plenty of decent jobs have become available yet he still sticks to his punditry. his loss and our gain

Well dosen't it show the quality of Managers eh. Malky has got us this far on a shoestring where Shearer would not take the job because he could not buy who he wanted. One is a proper Manager the other is buy there way to be a decent Manager. Leicester and there previous Managers have proved that.

Malky was always my choice but I never thought he would have such an impact. I did expect play/offs but the professionalism the club has gained and work ethic has been exceptional.

I was gutted that Shearer wasn't on the panel for our Carling Cup Semi-Final, would have been nice to see if he would have put his 2 cents in on if he felt he could have accomplished what MM has.

How could you expect playoffs with 11 players running around a training ground? :?

I believe DJ would have made the play/offs so expected any new manager to do the same.
The fact we had a clear out I believed helped us, he could bring in his players.

As a club that is hopefully moving forward it was apparent that Jenkins was not the man to take us to the next level but give him credit where credit is due -to call Malky's appointment an accident is clearly unfair I'm sure the rigorous appointment processes used would have shown up Malky's determination, worth ethic and appoint-ability. You make it sound as if he and whitely for that matter choose the next person off the street!.

You obviously didn't like him but it is a quality to recognise some good in someone even if you might think he is a complete wanker.

Interesting post though and Shearer was not the man

I remember when Carl broke the news about how Malky was close to becoming the new Cardiff manager, then out of the blue all this Shearer nonsense started and i felt utter dispair, even Carl had to slightly backtrack and apologise because he even thought Malky signing was a done deal. Shearer was never going to be right for this club, hardly any managerial experience and i don't think he was "big" enough for the job. Malky is a shoefit for the Cardiff job, the passion he brings and the work ethic is exactly what Cardiff fans have been crying out for over these last few years and we are very lucky to have him.

Thankfully it all turned out good and the rest as the say... is history ! (PS Carl was right about Malky too !! :ayatollah: )

But we had no money either at the time! without Malky I beleive we were going to be no better than a mid table team who were in a rebuilding year, hence the sticky we had, No Big Expectations this year..... Fortunately for us, we Have an excellent new manager! :ayatollah:

I've always said I expected play/offs, I never seen the point in replacing a manager to go backwards.
I wanted DJ out after last season and MM to come in and delighted with how things have happened

When I look at the names in our team I still feel we could be punching above our weight so full credit to Malky for getting our players to believe in themselves . It's still a way to go but I honestly couldn't see us finishing above mid table at the beginning of the season let alone getting to a cup final.Based on the last 6 away and home matches we are still the team to beat in this league !
Malky as been a breath of fresh air ...long may it continue !

I like to have a flick back at this article every now and then and it makes me smile, as the BBC had MM as the least likely to get the job.

At the time the whole Shearer thing was very tempting as he a huge figure in game. I believe Shearer would have lead the club to mid table at most.

Thank god the club were able to talk Malky back around to taking charge at the club.

Here's hoping to plenty of successful years under our new leader!! :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
