CARLING Cup idol Tom Heaton was the target for an unfair and unnecessary tongue-lashing as he walked from the Cardiff City Stadium car park towards the players entrance this week.
“You’ve cost us a place at Wembley thanks to your mistake in the first leg,” yelled the fan towards a shocked Heaton.
The verbal assault was unfair because Heaton had already played a huge role in helping the Bluebirds through major Carling Cup tests earlier in the competition.
But Heaton had the last laugh, with a clean sheet against Crystal Palace in the second leg and those penalty stops in the shoot-out.
I’m banking on a written apology being delivered to the stadium – or maybe it has already arrived.
Heaton deserves it.

Dai sent one, but told us all in the Ninian Pub on Tuesday night that Heaton had apologised to him.
