" City fans of the 70s and 80s "

This is for all of those years you loyally stuck by your home town club. Through thick and thin. Better and worse. Good times and bad. And through it all, the rainy Tuesdays, the sunny Saturdays. The Cup runs, the relegations, there was always that smug c**t, in your street, in the pub, with that cheesy, shit-eating grin. The Liverpool fan. The Liverpool fan whose holiday in Bangor as a child remains the closest he has ever been to Anfield. But a Liverpool fan all the same.
We are the best team in Britain. In Europe. The world.
Yeah? Well where are your f*cking tears? Your f*cking blood? I've had a hell of a time this weekend, how was your the view from your armchair? How was your celebrations at another trophy? Hollow, I presume? Cardiff City are a team on the up. We may not be up to much right now but we are f*cking real. And one of these days, maybe not this season or the next, but one day it will be our time, and when it is, we will start by taking down you Scouse twats on the biggest stage of all. Remember the name.

Come on Bluebirds. This game is for you. For us. Together.
THIS IS THE BEGINNING.

THIS IS A CALL TO ARMS.

Tell that to Bellamy.

He has a moral obligation not to fight against us :ayatollah:

His quotes and pledges from his time with us should be put to him by the media.

"Cardiff are the only club for me", didn't he say that?

Well he should answer to that...publicly :old:

We love you Craig don't be a traitor! :ayatollah:

totally agree...never did i think or hope that id ever see my team in an fa cup final in my lifetime...never dreamed maybe ,but never thought it ...watching all those years ago with the relagations never did i think we,d ever be in the position we are in now ...and ill tell you what ...it makes all this the more satisfying....im not knocking the newer fans but back then all this was a dream and i think some of the new fans dont realise how lucky they are to have seen the city recently ...we really have been pretty bloody successful and im LOVING IT !!

Was proud then and am proud now
They all try to knock us- cos we're welsh or the capital or
Because they were jealous of DJ spending money we never had but really
We've had no favours from anyone

Through thick and thin we've been there
From bad boards, to bad managers and the good uns too

Us fans were there.

They knock or avoid us as a club or as a team - but its us fans who turn out
Rain or shine and wind up orders, that have earned these huge games.

So come wembley
"I'll be there, I'll be there
With my little pick and shovel
I'll be there" :ayatollah:

You can stand next to me in the trenches anytime my friend, it seems that you and I have a similar outlook when it comes to the Bluebirds and wannabe Scousers and Manc's etc.

Great post... you should be in the changing rooms 10 mins before KO to give motivational team talks. :ayatollah:

Haha, whenever Malky gives it the green light... he knows where I am.

Altough, the way we are playing, I don't think he needs any help!

Re: City fans of the 70s and 80s

Be a good place to remember some of the names and faces from those days...people I never see any more, lots probably sadly passed away or maybe stop coming, or maybe still go to home games but with their kids and I simply don't see them anymore.....but people from the early seventies and early eighties that stick in my mind are Ferris from the Rhondda,Peggy from London...About 50 lads from the Bargoed mafia,a mad pair of twins from Aberdare, The Yo brothers from Caerphilly(I think that was their name, big sideboards) Doug Gronnow,Woody( although I think he comes on here now and goes to games again) There are so many.....whereever they are they could never have dreamt that we would have had the highs of the last 12 years....we have had obvious lows aswell but nothing like it used to be in the Dungeon days

The point is we should all enjoy these times...hopefully they will get even better, but never forget that not long ago Hereford United and Barnet away were classed as must win big games.

Good post, i was one of those who followed the city through some pretty dire tmes, i never missed a league game home or away for 10 years between 1974 - 1984. Midweek games then were always a wednesday night i remember leaving work at 12 o,clock (midday) to get the supporters club coach to halifax for a 7.30pm kick off, their supporters club (bar) then was a portacabin, those were the days!!!

They were great days, although it did not always feel like it at the time! 75/76 season is my all time favourite. Promotion from division three after one season. Evans and Alston getting loads of goals. Clinched it at Bury, when Phil Dwyer scored. Jimmy Andrews in charge.

Division four in the late 80s was good too. Jimmy Gilligan and Kevin Bartlett getting the goals, George Wood keeping them out. Alan Curtis (yes, he was a Bluebird as well, read the chapter in his autobiography 'Curt' that deals with his time at the City) was pure class on the wing or in midfield. Frank Burrows' first spell. Oh, and Mike Ford !

But looking back, quite a few of the lads I knew and worked with at the time did follow the City. Some of the girls too. It was the egg-chasers who tended to ridicule us, don't remember too many plastics.

Won't dwell on some of the other seasons!

Anyone on this forum worked at Sharpe and Fisher in the West Dock from 76 to 84, or in Whitchurch and Velindre hospitals from 84 to 2010?

An absolutely brilliant post. My lads who are 14 and 8 get shit at school (Andover, Hampshire) for following CCFC from a whole load of kids who support Chelsea, Utd, Liverpool, Man Citeh etc. These kids have never seen their team play apart from on sky tv. My boys have travelled to the likes of West Brom, Wigan and Wembley. They have led their team out onto the pitch and experienced the ecstasy of watching us win at wembley as well as the lows of the play off final. My boys are proud to follow their team and i'm proud that i have given my boys the opportunity to be real football fans.

we need to cherish these wembley moments! my grandad was a massive city fan, born 1927 died 2004,

he always said that cardiff would be back at wembley one day.. he never got to see it in his lifetime, yet i will be making my 4th visit !

it could be a long time before we ever go back, it could be in a couple of months time!

but lets just remember these moments as a cardiff city fan and say i remember , because i was there!
