Have got hold of some extra's from Don Murray! as part of a previous interview by Dai Towler (My new contact!

)
MTDB - Cardiff supporters Trust.
as a continuation from my Don Murray speaks up thread:
Don on Drinking
“We always had a drink after the game. Maybe if we play on Saturday maybe on Tuesday evening. But two or three days before a game? No, absolutely not! I was surprised with the Middlesborough debacle, it just tells me they lost respect for somebody, maybe Dave Jones I don’t know. But that was the clue Dave had lost the dressing-room.
But we had respect for Jimmy Scoular; we would never have done that. Off the field, if we were abroad after a match having a meal, Jimmy would say to me: ‘You’re responsible for this lot!’, ‘How can I be responsible for a 34 year old?’, ‘You’re Captain of this club now and you’re responsible!’ he said. Fair dues, the boys always, always, behaved themselves and respected the name of Cardiff City; we’d never drag the name of the club through the mud.”
Don on Bothroyd
“Jay Bothroyd would not have survived with my old manager, Jimmy Scoular. Jimmy used to say: ‘If you’re hurt stay down and let get the trainer on, but if you’re not, get back up on your feet because we need you!’ If you go down people will think you’re soft as hell. He would have been lashed from pillar to post, people talk about Fergie giving out hair-dryer-treatment, Jimmy Scoular would have given him a right tongue lashing and he wouldn’t have spent all that time on his backside, I can assure you.”
Don on Tackling
“I think tackling is going out of the game. Some of the tackles we did years ago, you wouldn’t see players for nine months now. It’s a shame; I think tackling is an important part of the game, but I it’s becoming less and less now.”
Don on DJ
“I don’t think he deserved to be sacked, but it’s a results business and the opportunity has been there and unfortunately for him and everyone we didn’t make it.”
Don on Malky
“I hope everything goes well for him. The Malaysians will look to go for promotion again but I think anything better than mid-table and he would have done a good job.”
Don on Swansea
“The night before I got married I played in a derby game against Swansea at the Vetch and I got a smack in the eye, I turned up the next day with my wife-to-be with this enormous black eye. She wasn’t happy.”
Don on Cash
“If was played today I wouldn’t be having £100k a week, I’d be happy with £30k. But money wasn’t important as it seems to be today, we loved the game, we wanted to play the game, if the money was there it was there, but it wasn’t important.”
Don on Jimmy
“He was fearsome, but he was a lovely fella, he pulled no punches, if he had something to say he said it. He had tremendous respect because he was a top class player himself; he was a player’s man.”
Don on Kev
“Kev McNaughton is a fair comparison. He is whole-hearted and he wears his heart on his sleeve, the only thing I think he needs is a bit of Grecian 2000 on his hair, but he’s a good quality player.”
hope you enjoyed that little eye opener from Don! City Legend!
