Friday evening moral dilemma.

Fri Jan 20, 2012 8:01 pm

Is it OK to profit from crime?

i.e convicted criminals appearing in films, writing books, having national newspaper columns etc

Should they be able to do whatever they want once they have completed their punishment or should it be made illegal for them to make money from wrong doing?

Do you mean Gary Glitter? I know he's been in the news recently. No not specifically about him, just a general question.

no genuinely wondering if it was a general discussion.
I dont know its an interesting one should a criminal profit from the crimes he commits then no i dont but can he or she make money after the fact i dont see why not its not a crime to discuss wrong doings so why not make money off it if you can.

So to use a high profile case, say Roy Whiting, he gets out of prison in 50 years time, and writes a book about what he did and his time in prison and it sells thousands, mainly because most people have long since forgotten about the case, should this be allowed? I know this is an extreme case but it's no different morally.

ok well one I cant see that book flying off the shelves and he has got a life sentence and I have a feeling he wont be leaving prison
but
if a criminal has served the sentence given to them they are now free people and are free to do what they want
you may not agree with it but thats our justice system
id say ask Annis most of his books are based on illegal activity whats his point of view.

I think its a f*cking disgrace.look at david beckham when he was 13 he was caught pinching a mars bar at the tuck shop at chingford comp.If the school had punished him properly eg chopped his hand off i bet he would be selling big issues now there is no justice in this country.
