MALKY: WE MUST KEEP STANDARDS UP
Posted on: Fri 20 Jan 2012
Malky Mackay reflected on a busy week ahead of Saturday's npower Championship fixture with Portsmouth at Cardiff City Stadium.
"It's been a very good and interesting week," began the Gaffer, speaking to press this Friday morning.
"I was over in Malaysia earlier in the week to see our owners for various chats and also for the launch of the grassroots programme which we're involved with heavily.
"It was a good few days, tied in well and didn't affect things here too much with the lads having a bit of time off earlier in the week. It was important for me to be seen out there as we continue to promote the Cardiff City brand."
Back on Welsh soil, Malky highlighted the benefits of the squad not having a midweek fixture this week saying: "Obviously we haven't had a midweek game this week which has been good for the lads to have some downtime with another busy spell on the horizon. We've been able to prepare solely for Portsmouth and although we've put things in place in terms of preparation for Palace on Tuesday night, that's all we do.
"We've got a club coming to us in Portsmouth on Saturday who are going to give us a tough game, we know that. We have to keep our standards up and stay consistent, that's the key thing at this stage of the season; it's not as if we've only got ten games to play, we just need to keep focusing on the game in front of us.
"What's for sure is that we certainly won't be taking our eye off the ball with Palace on the horizon. Anybody who watches Championship football knows that that can't and doesn't happen.
"You've got to look to win your home games that's for sure. Cardiff City Stadium has been a fortress up to now in the main, and that's something we want to continue. It's about continuing to impose ourselves now until the end of the season."
On the injury front, the Gaffer added: "Kevin McNaughton hasn't had enough training to be ready for Saturday, although he has just about recovered from the knock. Rudy is in the same situation, but those two aside, everybody else is fit."
