The best strker we ever had?

Thu Jan 19, 2012 6:21 pm

No problem ----Trevor Ford. Past his best when he came to us but he could terrorize a defence merely by mingling with them and shoving his dark, unshaven face in theirs. I recall him as a corner was being taken, running along the goal line with his clenched fist thrust under the keeper's jaw.
When it came to shooting with the heavy old ball, there was no fussy scuffing the shots or fancy bending of the shot; he clubbed it directly into the keeper or the net and sometimes you didn't see the ball until it raged in the net. Ah memories.

Evening Lee,
You're Grampy knew his football then. You should read of a game between Villa And Man,Untd when Lightning played around the stadium and Ford was cracking the goals in as the thunder rolled in the background. Great days.

He loved the City Cal and got me hooked from a very young age :ayatollah: :ayatollah: I would have loved to hear what he would have had to say about these last 10 years or so and his thoughts on our new stadium and facilities etc.
Thanks for posting your original post Cal :D :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Sounds like a poor mans Leo Fortune west to me 8-)

Um since mid 90s as im only a youngster, it would probably be Earnie first spell.

But if I was older when football wasnt played by fannies I would have chosen an old school battering ram.

Clive,

I do agree he is one of our greats, but Earnshaw being our top scorer in 3 divisions and scoring a hatrick in all 4 divisions, plus his first spell in the Premier League, he was 4th or 5th top scorer in the Premier League, also scored hatricks in the FA CUP, surely makes Robert Earnshaw our best ever striker ?

In all my years watching City i have seen many great strikers at City ; like John Toshack, Tony Evans, Geoff Hemmerman, Phil Stant, Jimmy Gilligan, Robert Earnshaw and a few others.

Who was the best well for me in his first time year for the amount and variety of goals he scored then it's got to be Earnie :old: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Carl Dale - end of. His goals kept us in the football league when he was part of a bloody awful city team, we could be a conference team now without Carl Dale's goals..........never forget that! :ayatollah:

Yep sorry missed Carl Dale as you said he kept us up that season in a struggling team he scored a load of goals and i wonder how many he would have scored in a decent side but i still think Earnie takes the accolade :old:
