" TUESDAY 17th JANUARY 2012 MINI-UPDATE "

Tue Jan 17, 2012 7:36 pm

As I announced on here last night Mehmet Dalman has been registered as a director of Cardiff City Football Club, Dalman is effectively replacing U-Jiun Tan on the board of directors. Dalman was registered as a director on 10/01/12 at Companies House. Dalman is a football man and as you have read probably today that he has been around football for a long time.

U-Jiun is pursuing other interests and he being replaced has no bearing on the Malaysians position at the club.

Dalman has spent weeks going through the due diligence process and I am told is not just becoming a director but will be investing into the club as well. He has experience and expertise at brokering deals and Dalman becoming a director bears more than just a coincidence with some information I was told last night.

I have been led to believe that the Langston and PMG debts will be dealt with and it is expected that both will be completed this summer, everything I have been told about Dalman is positive and that his appointment is a very good acquisition by the club.

As we know Malky, Steve Borley and Alan Whiteley are in Malaysia and that the primary reason is to support the 1MCC grass roots foundation but if anyone thinks that Malky is not there discussing the possibility to have more funds to spend in the transfer window is somewhat naïve.

I can confirm that the club does have an interest in Jamie Mackie, QPR, but no offer has been made because I am told that up to this point the budget will not stretch to the £1.5million that QPR are seeking, added to that is Mackie is on a very high wage at Loftus Road. There is interest from other clubs for Mackie so if City wish to get him then Malky has to hope that he is given more money to spend in this window.

With the Craig Noone bid, I am told there is a ‘bit of poker’ going on at present and Malky was hoping to play it all out behind the scenes but once it got out in the press then his cover was blown, it is expected that an improved offer will be made for Noone.

Steve Borley is out in Malaysia to discuss the ‘House of Sport 2’ that he is planning on building next to the original building and when this is built it will give the club the grade 2 academy level that they are just shy of at the moment.

As I said in a previous update Aaron Wildig completed an extension to his Shrewsbury loan and he will now stay on loan until the end of the season.

This afternoon I took a call and amongst various subjects regarding City, one in particular caught my attention more than the rest. I was told, and I don’t know myself if this is 100% fact or not, that since the buildings went up around the outskirts of the stadium, ie. KFC, McDonalds, Sand Martin then we can no longer increase our stadium capacity to the 60,000 figure that was always heralded when the stadium build started, apparently because of the lack of exits then we would not be allowed to increase to such a capacity. If this is indeed true then I am gobsmacked that the regime who allowed this to happen, actually went for short term survival over long term planning. I will be asking more questions tomorrow about this to see if it is indeed true.

The club are very happy with the recent surge in sales of Crystal Palace tickets but would like to remind supporters that there is a more important game taking place and that is the Portsmouth game on Saturday, the club hope that City fans turn up in their thousands and buy tickets for this game before Saturday but have also asked to me to announce that you can buy Palace tickets on Saturday prior to the Pompey game.

good update hopefully these debts get sorted finally this summer and we can move on. As for transfers personally i think we need players next week and the Malaysians need to give a MM a good backing this window for a promotion and carling cup push. :ayatollah:

Thankyou very much for the update Carl, Much appreciated :D :D Jamie Mackie would be a good signing and would fit in very well with the system Malky likes to play here.
Worrying about the stadium though,I look forward to your future comments on this mate.

Also Mackie is in tonights starting 11 in the cup to - nice to see how he will get on? but I think it will be more of an eye opener for Hughsey to be honest. See what he wants to do with fringe players? Some are saying there is interest also for Smith.

Regarding the (hopeful) investment from new Director Carl, do we have any information on this at all?
I personally believe that this chap is alot Wealthier than people are led to believe too..... Maybe we may get some backing in this window if the malaysians are getting some input as well from others sources for a change?

Re: " TUESDAY 17th JANUARY 2012 MINI-UPDATE "

Tue Jan 17, 2012 7:46 pm

Well I strongly stand by my believe/opinion in October, that we need 3 or 4 more quality players if we are to go up this season. Our players are looking tired and weak up front etc.
I also believe Malky thinks exactly the same, so lets hope he gets the tools to finish the great job he has started. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

carl can the increase to 36/7 thousand still go ahead if needed or has that also been knocked in the head due to the new buildings you mentioned.

Shocking. It actually makes logical sense, thinking about it. It would be difficult enough with a full house at our current capacity, never mind anything over it.

I cannot see the stadium capacity being a problem. When will we EVER need a 60,000 seater stadium.

However if on the off chance we ever became big enough to fill a 60,000 seater, we would also be powerful enough within the City of Cardiff to get ANYTHING passed through the council.

Mackie has started both QPR games under hughes so far so be interesting to see if they will let him go.

Personally I dont think we need a 60k stadium, I just cant see us selling out that even if we were in the prem.
Carl do you know if it can be increased at all? I think a 35/40 seater would be more than adequate if we became a solid prem club.

Hi Carl,

The stuff about the new director is very similar to what was on walesonline earlier. Are you Terry Phillips in disguise. :ayatollah:

And I had a couple of points on this - U-Jiun left in August, so the new guy is a bit late as a replacement, particularly as Mike Hall has also been added.

Also PMG are only owed about £3m max now, so that debt is not much of a big deal now. The Langston one IS, and once its sorted I'll be having a few pints to celebrate

Finally about the capacity. We'll never need a 60k stadium, maybe if we become a real top club 45000, but the 60k thing is a dream. If we were ever big enough to jusitify it then the Sand martin and Travel-lodge could be moved, but The Universe Ultimate league is still some time away

Think one of Noone or Mackie will happen!!!!!!!!! :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Cheers for the update

If we moved up to the Premier League, then perhaps an increase to a 35,000 capacity would be plenty for a few years - its only 8,000 more than the current capacity, after all. Half of the existing Premier League teams have capacity of 35,000 or less. Stoke, for example, have a stadium with only 1,000 or so more capacity than ours, and have managed to remain established in the PL.

If it looked like we were going to continue to move onwards and upwards, then if we wanted to make it 60,000 we could buy out Mc Donalds/KFc etc anyway - it would be a relatively small amount of money compared to the increase in size of the stadium.

Re: " TUESDAY 17th JANUARY 2012 MINI-UPDATE "

Tue Jan 17, 2012 8:06 pm

Carl, if we catually ever got to the position where we would want a 60k stadium the club could work with the council to move some of those businesses through compulsory purchase.

If the expansion was really on the cards, money would be the only issue. I.E. how much would it take to buy them out.

I will be gobsmacked if they don't give malky cash, he's worked wonders after Jones' mess.

Sod the 'wait 'til next season' to get up aswell...Take your chance and dance, we will be in great shape
if the manager can add a few quality signings.

:ayatollah:

Re: " TUESDAY 17th JANUARY 2012 MINI-UPDATE "

Tue Jan 17, 2012 8:17 pm

I think we'll get Noone for about £750,000 to £1m. Then hopefully we can get a lesser known player on the cheap. Eunan O'Kane of Torquay United perhaps? Northern Ireland U-21 international, scores some great goals, and more importantly he plays left midfield :ayatollah:

As for stadium capacity, no longer being able to expand to 60,000 isnt a problem. In the near future we will only ever need a 35/37,000 seater. But if we ever do need to go extreme, we can always get rid of the sand martin, KFC etc.. as we'll be super rich.

An excellent update and some very interesting points for discussion. In the short term I think the most important thing is that Malky gets given the extra 3 or 4 players we need to freshen up the squad and allow Malky to get us promoted this year.

Nice update.

With regards to the dilemma of the stadium expansion, I am led to believe that the 60,000 footprint can be realised simply by allowing more walkways at the back of the ninian stand. Furthermore, Sloper Road and additional approach roads would be closed to traffic for up to to an hour before and after kick off.

There may also be a lower safety certificate for night games. Nothing new there, as Wembley used to be limited to 92,000 for night games due to similar issues.

That said, I am led to believe that a 37,000 capacity requires only minor adjustments at the time of writing.

I was told by someone that the stadium capacity can be extended quite easily, and a further 8 rows of seats can be added around to the current capacity with ease.

Wayne,

I always thought we would one day be like Man Utd/Arsenal etc

I believe we could fill it, if we were in the Premier League and in the Top 6 one day, who never, never say never. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Yes thats for 35,000 Dai, I think the permission for 60,000 has now gone for ever due to the sales of all the lands around etc.
