Malky aint in any hurry to get us promoted this season

Tue Jan 17, 2012 12:46 pm

by the looks of things. Here's what he's had to say in Malaysia - On Cardiff's ambition to play in the English Premier League, the 39-year-old said the club were aiming to compete in the top-tier division.

"We, however, want to be prepared for it and doing so by developing our young players. We want to be prepared as we want to be competitive. We must be able to move forward when we are in the Premier League," added Mackay, who was in the Norwich team who played two matches in Malaysia seven years ago.

Very interesting comment that found in this article - http://www.nst.com.my/sports/soccer/the ... et-1.33414? Sounds to me as if he thinks we are not ready for Premier League football just yet. Looks like he is in a long process of squad building first. To me this says don't expect big things in this transfer window.

Aliens, I mostly agree with the thing you say on here but I disagree with this one.

In the past Dave Jones set himself up for a fall on both occasions we failed, even the year we were beaten by Preston he was saying we were nailed on for promotion.

Jones last year stated that the squad he had was the best ever at CCFC yet failed and broke the hearts of all the city fans.

I think Malky is playing his cards very well, he knows this is a new squad and I believe he also think this team as it is, is capable of promotion and quite frankly, with all the luck in the world I have to agree with him. I believe we will get the players we need in order to make this current squad stronger than it currently is.

Problem is, it goes to show how much money Jones had and how much he pissed up the wall to fail.

I think VT and the current board are trying to minimise spent whilst managing our long term debt.

I think CCFC is dead safe at the money and planning for short term gains through promotion. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I've gotta be honest, i've thought this all along and though it can be quite frustrating at times (patience) it does make a lot of sense.
from day one i have thought this year was all about building foundations of a good team and then in the summer i believe malky will be looking to add the necessary flair and creativity to our team in order to push for the premier league.
Malky's problem is that we are doing so well :? I know that sounds odd but i honestly believe that even malky didnt expect us to be doing quite so well at this stage of his tenure.
Now we are in such a good position the club are faced with the difficult decision of pushing the boat out to acheive prem football this year which would probably involve paying over the odds for players or sticking to the original plan that i talked about above!

Yes I think you have your finger on the pulse there we are exceeding anything anybody expected and thats the dilemma for the next two weeks which is why in part Malky has gone to Malaysia I believe. Do we push the boat out and go for it this transfer window or hang fire and probably just miss out at the end of the season? My view is that if we do go for it and sign a few players then you will see VT and TG move very quickly to clear the PMG and Langstone debt to clear the decks for a full takeover before we get promoted. if we don't then there's no rush for a full takeover. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

malky always insisted that it would take three transfer windows to assemble a squad capable of promotion.
the problem with pushing the boat out is that despite how well malky has done the malaysians had their fingers well and truly burnt by jones's poor aquisitions last january and will be wary of it repeating itself.

Well it repeated itself enough under that same man, Yes. But surely with a new man in charge, and the current position we are in without the demands of last years manager, There must surely be a little bit of a waiver or allowance. Maybe just maybe, they are sitting there thinking well if he can do this well on such crap resources, and current squad, (and after this weekends games where we could literally be 1pt behind Southampton for an automatic spot - and the potential to attract more players if progressing past palace in the cup) Then imagine what may be possible with just a couple of million, to win almost £100m worth of promotion? Is the Gamble (using that word lightly!) really a big gamble? or is THIS gamble really to good to miss out on (earlier than anticipated?)

only the next two weeks will speak volumes I guess.

That statement is a bit ambiguous aliens although your interpretation could easily be correct. For me MM is saying that it's not just about reaching the Premier League but also being competitive when you get there.

On that score he seems to be aiming for a Kardiff Kids policy, like Busby did with his babes and Fergie did with his fledglings.
