EXCLUSIVE: " Bellamy ready to quit Wales after row over new boss. "
Published 22:12 14/01/12 By Ken Gorman

Craig Bellamy could end his international career following the bust-up between Welsh football bosses and their star players.

The row has also hardened the resolve of Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale to play for Great Britain in the Olympic Games — against the wishes of the FA of Wales.

The top players are angry at not being consulted by the FAW over the appointment of a new manager to succeed Gary Speed.

They fear the new boss will break up the system brought in by Speed.

A close source revealed: “Bellamy was persuaded to carry on because of his respect for Gary.

“But now, if a new manager comes in and changes everything, Craig is likely to walk away.

“Ramsey and Bale were both keen to play in the Olympic team, but they would have pulled out if that had caused any problems for the World Cup campaign which starts just afterwards.

“Now, after what has happened, they are both more determined to play in the Olympics.”

As Wales captain, Ramsey voiced their anger, expressing his ‘disappointment’ at not being consulted and adding: “We don’t want to be taking a backward step again, and having players not wanting to turn up and play.”

Former Wales defender, Fulham and Coventry manager Chris Coleman is favourite to take over from Speed, after being approached by the FAW in the past week.

Ryan Giggs was their top choice, but has ruled himself out after deciding to carry on playing for another season with Manchester United.

Can't see it happening. This rumour floats about every time Wales have a friendly. Bellers is the type who will want to qualify for the WC for Speed. I'll believe he's retired when he says it himself.

Yes, the Anti Coleman sentiments (is what I read into it and a Toshack style manager) seems to be led by Cardiff born players, what will be the reaction down West, about picking on their ex player, will it split the Nation ??

this is nowt to do with where Coleman is from FFS

These are players who will play all over england and not even started out playing or indeed supporting their home town club Cardiff, most don't have bitterness rivalry that most fans have.

Coleman is old school simple.

The new dynamic brought in by the Speed team should be maintained.
Our key players have played for some of the top managers in the business - so why shouldn't they be consulted????

We are a small nation, we need to be united to achieve.

Coleman you jack b*stard. Lets not get a new manager? and play the system Gary would of wanted. Ever since the news of Speed i think wales have played very well. Play the system and train how Speed wanted it to be done. Im sure Wales has what it takes to qualify for the World Cup :ayatollah:

This doesn't surprise me at all. Welsh FA are f*cking joke and never been able to do things right. Senior established players should have been conculed as a matter or courtesy.

Dont really understand the timing of the memorial game either .

will coleman be keeping the other staff.ie..the dutch fellow.?i heard c.c say after sswans/afc game he would,if chosen he,d continue the gary speed way.lads as an englishman i think the futures rosy for you if c.c continues in the same vein and if you ALL back him.i believe one of your defenders is english born yet no one cares.so why are fans getting wound up because certain players/manager are born 40m down the road in the same country?i hope you do well .i liked g.s and i think c.c is a decent fellow.good luck

Coleman's got balls! He's taken the job. There aren't many managers/players in World football that could take over after the amazing work Speed has done, without any sort of backlash/dislike towards them.

I can't see Bellamy missing the Costa game, retire after the WC2014/qualifiers.

Fair play to coleman! huge job in the worst circumstances! bellamy and the welsh players will be as hungry as ever to play for speed and im sure coleman will do all he can to continue the regime that speed brought in!
