" My gut feeling is----- "

Sat Jan 14, 2012 7:09 pm

For some reason or other I have a gut feeling that Malky may be tempted to plow on through the season without any significant additions to the squad. If he can gain promotion with the present squad he will be on the wish list of every ambitious club in the country; even if he comes close to success it will be regarded as a fine achievement and the offers will pour in.

Ominously, our team was described as 'tired' a few times today and with a limited squad of youngsters this may signal a downturn in our fortunes and our fitness coaches may find that they are flogging that old dead horse that we have become used to. I agree with those who express fears that we may just miss out yet again if we don't add a few more talented faces to a young and eager squad that may be feeling the strain.

Cal, I have been 'concerned' for the past few months that if we don't strengthen then we will fade quite dramatically and finish outside of the play offs also I am worried about our lack of penetration in more than a few games. To balance the argument then it has to be stated that the fact we have reached a semi-final and got into 3rd and got to within 2 points of the top of the table is an excellent achievement but now we got this position then we should kick on.

We got the manager and with team strengthening I can't see why we cannot achieve a high finish and hopefully another Wembley appearance.

Just back from the game and I've had time to reflect.

The first half was poor with neither team going close. The second half was better but on the whole that wasd a poor half as well. I thought it was going to take a bit of quality to win the game and it nearly turned out that way, unfortunately that came form the home side with Diouf forcing a good save from Marshall just after the restart. Our quality man Whittingham failed to trouble the Doncaster goalkeeper with an effort from distance that even I could have saved.

Don't want to sound negative as I think the Tuesday night game at Palace was to Doncasters favour. Our guys did look tired and struggled in the first half to match the enthusiastic Rovers. The second half we featured a lot more as the Rovers players started to tire. That seemed to balance the game out.

Nothing to write home about this game but looking on the positive besides Doncaster one chance they hardly threatened our goal which they have managed to do successfully on their own patch against some inform teams. I don't know but if we had a bit more quality up front I think we could have snatched that.

Carl,
As you know, Will Shakespeare was a great football fan and he once wrote :--------

" There is a tide in the affairs of men which,
if taken at the flood
leads on to fame and fortune."

I think the flood awaits us. Malky and the board must get their surf boards out ASAP.

Steve you and I both have remained steadfast that no new signings will be made within the first two weeks of the transfer window but will happen later on when Premiership clubs have done their business allowing Malky to bring in his targets.

i initially heard that rumour as well but it turned out that we were not paying for him in instalments but the club were told that he actually goes down in instalments which was proved on his every appearance for us.

You make a good point in there Ian, Donny also tired. We are not the only Championship club running on a small squad, so if our players are tired then so are the players of 20 odd other Championship teams and therefore it should 'even itself out'

Like everyone else I would love to see some quality additions to the squad, but if it doesn't happen I have absolute faith in this bunch of players to come good again.
