Yesterday at Oldbury Power Station

At the end of February Oldburys last remaining online Reactor is due to shut down for the last time ever !! Yesterday i was the last person ever to connect a charge machine (Pictured below on a gantry) to a live Reactor and take it off. Oldbury is one of the last Nuclear Power Stations in the World that fuels online. I have been putting a Charge Machine on a Reactor and taking it off for around 18 years and i will never do it again only connect to a shutdown Reactor. Well there you go i thought i would share that with you

Bloody hell I have heard of kicking the arse out of a job, but surely you can do it quicker than that?

Ha ha in total it takes about two hours to prepare and connect it to the reactor and make the charge machine and reactor as one. When the Yanks come over they are shocked that we can actually do that.

The number two Reactor shut down for the last time last year. The number one Reactor was due to shutdown at the end of this year but the Nuclear inspectorate wanted a lot more tests done at the end of February to get permission to generate until the end of the year. That would involve nearly 2 Months work (Which would of been brill for my bank account masses of overtime ) but would cost to much for what we would of made generating.
So once the last Reactor is shut down yes we will start decommissioning. We have 50.000 fuel elements to take out of both Reactors and ship them to Sellafield which will take several years. Then decommission the Plant, the Ponds area where we store the irradiated fuel also needs to be decommissioned and that will be a massive job. So i should have employment for the rest of my working Days (I am hoping)

Yes they did. But not a gig they recorded a video/ song there a long time ago. Also done an episode of Doctor Who as well with Tom Baker "The hand of fear" Also the opening of one James Bond film. Cant remember which one now
