Cardiff To Newport On Matchday

Fri Jan 13, 2012 5:26 pm

As we are now close to booking tickets to come back to the UK, I am starting to formulate a plan for visiting as many Welsh games as possible. Have noticed that City are up against Millwall at 12:30 on 31st March and that Newport are playing at 15:00 on the same day against Gateshead Realistically, if I left at the final whistle and ran to the car, what time am I likely to get to Spytty? Is it worth attempting to do both games on the same afternoon when there will be a gap of about 40 mins between City finishing and County starting?

Thanks for your help on this one. Would be helpful if a couple of people could answer, as there may be different opinions about how long it would take - especially given that there will be football traffic however quickly I try and get out. I do not believe in leaving before the final whistle - ever - so would rather skip Newport rather than leaving the game 10 mins early.

Its really tight, its possible though, but i wouldnt like to say whether ud be dead on time or even just 20mins late. Traffic permitting of course. U r better off leaving City game 10mins early.

By the time you drive to Newport and find somewhere to park, you'd probably miss most of the first half.

if you left the city game at the end, depending where you park it could take you a while to get out of cardiff.

I think you would be able to make kick off at spytty if you park your car on sloper road with all the other cars, facing grangetown then drive to the end of the road and turn left at the lights, then follow the road straight through all the traffic signals and behind cardiff central train station then head for the docks and down rowen way, when you get to the big roundabout at i think its called western avenue just past the tescos turn right instead of going over the flyover and drive down the coast road past st brides and into duffryn newport you will then come out at tredegar park roundabout turn right and follow the new southern distributer road past the docks and over the new bridge then you will be at spytty a couple of mins after going over the bridge, i can gurantee you will get there in less than 40 mins and maybe only half hour, you will hit hardly any if any traffic at all going this back roads route, hope this helps, good luck fellow bluebird and welsh supporter :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Mate - that is such an heroic post that I have just copied it into a word document for reference. The Easter weekend offers great opportunities for watching the Welsh teams with Wrexham and Merthyr on Friday and then games on Saturday, but Cardiff are up at Middlesbrough. Have talked to my 5yr old daughter about the options. She likes the Welsh teams but there is only one team she wants to go and see really and that's Cardiff. Would just love to take in two games if it is possible, given that I will be driving from Sheffield.

Thanks for the other comments too!

Don't rush around like a mad thing.

Go to the Millwall game and then bring a wallet full of stirling to the Potters Bar in Canton after the game and go mad on the lash with me and the rest of the lads.

ps...Don't bring the trouble or the saucepans :old:
