COLEMAN SET TO SUCCEED AS WALES BOSS

with backroom team to remain

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2085408/Chris-Coleman-set-succeed-Gary-Speed-Wales-boss.html

Chris Coleman will be confirmed as Gary Speed’s successor as Wales head coach later this month.

The former Fulham and Coventry City boss has been lined up to replace his close friend after resigning as manager of Greek second division side Larissa this week.
Speed beat Coleman, 41, to the job 16 months ago after John Toshack quit. Former Wales centre half Coleman has support from Welsh FA council members and has been contacted about the vacancy.

The decision needs to be ratified by the executive, led by Jonathan Ford, for it to receive formal approval.
Coleman has beaten several challengers to land the Wales role, with Mark Bowen a contender until he landed the job as Mark Hughes’s No 2 at QPR.

That means the path is clear for Coleman to return to British football.

His appointment will be received warmly and he will hope to carry on the encouraging results his former team-mate achieved before his death in November.

Coleman still has to resolve certain contract issues with Larissa but once those are settled he will be able to take charge ahead of the memorial match for Speed against Costa Rica next month.

There is less certainty over what will happen with his backroom team, despite a number of players supporting the existing management structure.

Star striker Craig Bellamy remains behind Speed’s assistant Raymond Verheijen but the Dutchman has yet to be offered a new contract. His previous deal has just run out.

Captain Aaron Ramsey might be disappointed at not being contacted by the FAW over the incoming manager but Coleman will not instigate any radical overhaul of the backroom team unless he has to.

This means Verheijen should stay with Wales and Osian Roberts will remain as technical director.

Keeping the pair is seen as crucial to the country qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. A run of four victories from Speed’s last five games has led to optimism that Wales can make it to Brazil.

Could've been worse. He'll do.

The easy and lazy choice by the FAW

RIP Gary Speed.

if by doing well is by keeping them in the premiership then he hasn't done any better than the managers after him

Well he has already set them up as a premiership club by then but generally agree.

Iwan Roberts 2nd fav????? WTF :?

Huddink would be ideal and I think he would do it but the FAw won't pay it.

Apparently the FAW want to pay a yearly contract of 100k a year
Huddink would want a lot more than that, I'd say closer to 1m

That'll be OSIAN Roberts, the current Technical Director...

Terrible news in my opinion, Speeds understudy that dutch guy should get it. He has worked with speed and knew what direction and the style he wanted to play and could continue that. Now Coleman and his dreary mannerism will set us back again I have no doubt.

Toshack did a lot at Management level but look what that got us.

Not my personal choice but it could be much worse. We're not really left with much choice if we're honest. If we wanted someone of quality we'd have to shell out the money and it's money we just don't have. I'll back him from the start though if he gets the job and I hope the fans do the same.

If this is true it is a Micky Mouse apointment, but then what do you expect with the Welsh FA.

Coleman is just like a young Toshack, he is young in years, but comes across very old school in his ways. "Im the boss do as I say dont question it". I cant see him having the respect of the players, or someone progressive like the dutch fella (im not going to even attempt to spell his name).

Wales three most influential players, Ramsey, Bellars and Bale, all stated they wanted continuity and then they could possibly put this dinosaur in charge.

And if the dutch fella fecks off, we could well end up with Steve Kean on the backroom staff. :?

MASSIVE step back IMO.

The dutch fella with his modern methods, plus Roberts, who has brought most of these youngsters through the youth set-up would have done for me. Dont have to be a big name, and lets be fair we havent got many big names in Welsh football.

It was always going to be a weird appointment.

As long as Raymond Verheijen (aka Dutch Ray) is involved i'll be happy.

well lets just hope the faw have a thought process that they will bring him in as the man on the sides and will keep the backroom team together so coleman will be the guy on the sidelines ,i dont mind coleman hes a die hard welshman i just hope that after the work speedo did it doesnt get undone as that would be stupid and the players love it .....but we all know what our faw are like !!!

Give the guy a chance. The late Gary Speed was not my original choice as Wales manager either, but proved me, & i dare say, a lot of others wrong.

Saying coeman hasn't done anything in management why does that matter? What had gary speed done before wales? What has malky done before cardiff? Enough said

But what did Speed do before taking the Wales post ? What worries me is how he is going to have them playing ? But everyone thought the same on Brendan Rodgers at Scumsea but he just continued the work left by previous Managers and it is paying dividends now. We will need to see how it goes. But that would be the same as anyone who takes over.

im not really happy about this but hasnt he said hell happy work alongside raymond and roberts? also pulis has offered to coach as a one off??

i really hope that whoever comes in is basically an active football/management consultant and that the 2 lads there now do the day to day hands on work and then we just have a front man with experience in management i.e. pulis on a part time/consultancy basis!! :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Colemans been a manager for years and done f**k all.

Speed was a manager for a few months before we snapped him up.

Speed was a legend to the young players. Coleman isnt.
