TEAM GB APPROACH WHITTS

Wed Jan 11, 2012 10:57 pm

Apologies if already posted...

Peter Whittingham has apparently been approached for Team GB duty later this year.

Would be tremendous experience for him, should he be picked. Can't see him turning it down, either.

I seem a very forceful interview with MM about a month ago saying he didn't want any of his team playing because it interrupts pre-season

An odd choice when you consider the older players available

I really hope he agree to play, it'll be really good for him to get a chance at international football again as it doesn't seem like he'll ever get a full England cap

Next season begins almost two weeks later than it usually does, so I can't see it being a monstrous problem.

Beckham and Giggs seem to be guarantees for the three over-23 spaces in the squad, and I expect the third will be either Kenny Miller or Robbie Keane. If Whitts does manage to get in, it shows what a magnificent talent he really is.

Technically he does but the home nations have an understanding not to use residency rules for players as far as I;m aware.

I've seen a few ask the same question. There's a few rumours he may be eligible due to the amount of time spent at City. Someone would have to dig deep into the rule book, though.

Would be AMAZING if he could.

As a Wales fan would he really get in the midfield of Crofts, Ramsey, Allen, Vaughan etc.

I'd assume you're aware the home nations have an agreement not to use domesticity eligibility?

If you want the FAW to reneg up[on that agreement, then the FA would have no qualms following suit, which would benefit them disproportionately.

I'm not sure if there is any truth in this.

I fully expect the three over age to be

David Beckham - 100%
Scott Brown - Celtic Manager said not too long a go about Adam Matthews, Forrest and Brown being contacted
Johnny Evans - hugely disappointing choice BUT - looking around at possible centre backs and this idea of representing all nations involved he'll be picked. Remember that England have said none of the euro squad will be playing - so that rules out P.Jones, C.Smalling and co.

Predicted first xi [451/433]

McGregor
Walker/Matthews
Gibbs
Caulker
Evans
S. Brown
Rodwell
Beckham
Ramsey
Bale
Sturridge/Wellbeck

By the way I'm of the opinion that Whitt's is a world beater and could be playing in most perm teams... bar Cheslea, Liverpool - despite being better than Henderson, Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City and Tottenham.

His technique and new found (over last three years) effectiveness in games makes him what I believe to be the best player outside of the Prem.

Jerdojedly :ayatollah: - Most of the names you have put up (imo) will be there...
As for the scottish player it was to be Flecther of Man U before the news came out that he would miss the rest of the season.
