Hudson last night

Wed Jan 11, 2012 3:49 pm

I thought our best player by some distance, some of the tackles were real top defender :ayatollah:

Turner unusually gave the ball away far to often but did nearly score

Totally agree!!!!

Huds was superb :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Thought Turner did well but yeah a few stray passes were frustrating but overall he did well!
We had a lot of chances in first half, thats gotta bode well for the 2nd leg :ayatollah:

Yes , thought Huddy had a good game.
Turner maybe wasn't at his best ?

Hudson and Turner were both doing my head in by hoofing it and giving it away all the time.

Do you think there were better options available to them when they were "hoofing it" ?
Genuine question as I'm in 2 minds !!!

it's a little predictable
if we are going to use the long ball, Whitts generally drops into that hole, Turner should give it to him and let the playmaker make the decisions

That as it maybe but dont we have one of the best away records in the league?

Re: Hudson last night

Wed Jan 11, 2012 6:04 pm

we shouldn't of been hoofing the ball so often against palace, because they are bigger than us  and stronger than mason and ralls and kenny, cowie even

Re: Hudson last night

Wed Jan 11, 2012 6:05 pm

when your the away side, the opposition will tend to play 10-15 yds higher up as they are home and usually want to impose on the game. this puts pressure on the defenders so sometimes, long balls are inevitable as they relieve short term pressure.
depends how comfortable they are on the ball, hence why Whitts plays in that Hole. Huds and Turner is are not Footballing defenders

Mcphail would of been class if we went 4-5-1 his creativity opening whitts up to play more of a free role may of won it for us

I think it was too late when Mcphail came on, I agree, he's a player that plays that position well, and free's up Whitts

Problwem was, when the ball went to the centre backs the rest of the side just charged forward, Palace marked up tight so they had no option but to go long. They porbably wanted to give it to Whitts but Palace made sure he had no space.

When we have very little in terms of width its going to happen.

Might be better if McPhail gets to play regularly as he always makes himself available.

Please drop the bring back McPhail crap.

When will people learn? Every season he returns around now and that is just when the rot sets in.

He is a complete waste of space, he can't tackle, can't score, can't header, can't run, has no work rate and no right foot. I'm told he can 'pick a pass' but I only ever see him passing sideways, backwards or in the case of Birmingham away straight to his ex-mate Lee Bowyer who blasted a goal against us.

Ridsdale brainwashed everyone into thinking he is the beesknees however just like everything else Ridsdale told us it's a load of bullshit.

Its around about this time of year our form normally picks up.

Its been when McPhail has got injured we've struggled in previous years. Like last year, he was sorely missed in the play-offs and the year before we perked up when he came back and dropped off when he was injured.

I had a look at the form when mcPhail played with Ledley ( 2 much criticised players) 2 seasons ago, and we hardly lost a match when they played together.

McPhail keeps the ball, wants the ball and uses the ball. Ledley works and marks, gives and goes, all stuff that unlike the big tackles, goals and shots often go un-noticed by many fans.

Its got feck all to do with Ridsdale, for me and I'm sure everyone else who likes McPhail, I can see with my own eyes what he brings to the side.

What I also like about McPhail is he will speak up when things go wrong and take it on the chin, wheras others liked to spout off when we were doing well but disappeared when things went badly (Chopra, Bothroyd etc..). He bounced back from his 2 sendings off against the Jacks and horrible illness and injury. The fact that he's still playing is testament to what a strong character he is.

He's also very well respected by the other players and other people around the club. Very noticable on the training day.

However he is like marmite for some, because different people like different things in their players, and there are plenty who will never like him as a footballer.

I don't think he's a world beater but I have utmost respect for him both as a player and a man. :ayatollah:

Agree with that mate, he's certainly got a strong head on his shoulders, me personally i like him as a footballer and also respect him as a person like u say for what he's been through

Hudson has been top quality this season. I think turner helps him, but long accurate balls to a 5'10" striker is not his game. I don't know where the midfield was, one should have dropped off to take it off him.

On the other hand, we don't leave the defense as open as we used to under DJ so a cluttered and combative midfield is helping his case.

Thought Hudson was terrible last night tbh, just hoofed the ball up field, did put in some half decent blocks but his ball retention is not up to championship standard

Hudson is at best average! His distribution was poor last night and he's slow. He reads the game well and has good timing which helps him out with his lack of pace and quality.

Turners a much better centre half with much more quality but tends do the same thing too often with his passing - if his long pass left to right works first time he does it again and again when he shud mix it up more often - but he definitely has the vision and ability.

Another Turner would make us much stronger - in defence, build up play and set pieces.

I dont know what Mcphail has done to Tony Williams but it must be really bad. He fecking HATES him.

Personally, I like him, he is an intelligent player, keeps us ticking along nicely, and uses the ball well in posession.

Cheers
