deleted topic re: the N word.

Mon Jan 09, 2012 5:52 pm

Anyone care to explain why it was deleted? Presumably because it contained a certain word?

Re: deleted topic re: the N word.

Mon Jan 09, 2012 5:53 pm

the word, even if not used in any context is racist in itself, therefore deleted.....stupid thread anyway.

That's just silly. So if for example I heard someone being called a n*gger, then I told someone that I heard someone call someone else a n*gger, then that would be unacceptable??

It's just gone way too far, I agree that the word n*gger used against a black person is racist and unacceptable and I have and would never say it to anyone as term of abuse, but the word itself isn't banned. It's not illegal or in my opinion wrong simply to say the word.

It contained "Tourettes " so got banned

I think you have pretty much answered your own question.

There's a semi final for you tomorrow, try concentrating on that.

Luis Suarez directed a racist insult at someone, he got done, fair enough. But is it then wrong for me to repeat what he said in order to describe the story to someone who hadn't heard it?

people start threads about that subject just to get a reaction. its truly pathetic.

That's just typical.

You hide it away and pretend that it doesn't exist.

It's almost patronising or condascending I'm not sure which one.

I will bet that it was a young lad that found it offensive because he's been told to find it offensive.

When really the word is only used by fecking eejits and is a sign of ignorance and stupidity.

It's just like sweeping dirt under the carpet looks good but it will fester into something worse. :old:

I was taking the mick HP.

But to answer your question I think Suarez actually used the word Negro rather than the other N word, which makes his ban even more baffling. Further down the board Johnny R has posted a youtube video of a black comedian repeatedily using the N word.

I would love to know if it was possible for me as a 'white' person to make a complaint against this black comedian because I find the repeated use of that word offensive? After all in modern multi-cultural Britain it is not unusual for white people to have black or asian people as part of their family and I have a black step-daughter.

To me if the word is offensive and is frowned on, then everyone no matter what their colour or creed should be discouraged from using it and even if you are white you should be able to find the word offensive even if it is spoken by a black person.

So in conclusion I would say that it would be wrong for you to repeat that word whatever the circumstances, but it should also be wrong for black people to use it to.

This is true. Sadly by turning this word into a taboo word it has now go so much more power than it ever used to have. You could hear the word said regularly years ago and wouldn't neccesarily take too much notice, I would simply think the person was an ill educated idiot. But now people recoil in disgust at it's mere mention, in whatever context, that cannot be right.

Black people calling thmselves n*ggaz is very much the same as us calling ourselves sheepshaggers, or the jacks referring to themselves as jbs, it takes the 'sting' out of the word. I would much prefer it could be acceptable to use it (obvioulsy not in a derogatary way) and it would then be pointless being used by racists as it wouldn't have the offensive power it has now.

That is a good point but the N word will never be accepted in the same way as sheepshaggers etc. There is no point trying to defy that but at the very least there should be a level playing field i.e. the word is racist whether it is spoken by white, black, asian or any other race or creed.

I deleted it!

If you have a problem with that contact the forum owner and have him chuck me off the moderator group? ;)

There was no need for the use of the word, the thread was pointless, usually they are posted to stir up a reaction so like the other Craig, this Craig though it was best to remove it before one thing led to another.

I will continue to delete any thread I think is pointlessly inappropriate.
