Thatcher wasn't a dictator.

Mon Jan 09, 2012 12:18 pm

Every time the subject of Margaret Thatcher comes up on here people seem to be falling over themselves to show how delighted they would be to see her die.
She wasn't the head of a military junta, she was the head of a democratically elected party, a party that was re-elected three times with her in charge.

Surely you cannot blame Thatcher and Thatcher alone for the policies over the years she was in power.

If you wish a painful death on her, then surely you should wish the same on every MP that served under her and every person who voted her in THREE TIMES.

I am not a tory voter, I have never voted for them and don't envisage a time when I would, but much ilke when the subject of a paedophile comes up, there seems to be a clamour to prove to others that you hate more than anyone else.

Not all politicians surely? I don't believe for a minute that every politician is in it for he money. The current MPs saalry is £65,000, a very good wage by most peoples standards, but most MPs could make far more working in the private sector.

Of course they wouldn't make more. That's just the crap they tell you. I tell my boss the same rubbish, if I worked else where I'd get paid a lot more etc.

The government are looking for cut backs, so why don't they cut their wages for a start? There are plenty of people in this country who would be a MP for no wage at all, just simply doing it for the love of the country. Cameron wants a charity society, well start with the MP's. They don't need paying. Replace them with people who want to serve the country rather than their own pockets and careers.

A Dictator wants things done there way and only there way , and its well known if you didnt agree with her , you were locked out. As for Blame , who should you blame ? as you say she run the country for years and years , she had the first and last word on everything. I can remember who it was, but she took on some adviser, who worked on something for over 8months, and she sacked him cos he didnt see it the way she did. I believe it was something to do with Road and rail, but not Beecham !

agreed not all,but its about the benefits that come with the job,the undisclosed earnings, the opening doors for people, companies, that repay them in various under hand ways, whats been reported in the papers is the tip of it,the kinnocks that managed to get the whole family working for the e.u.,coincidence,surely not :ayatollah:

I watched the rise of Hitler on Sky the other night. What is very interesting is the model he used to not only get in to power but to secure his power.

Basically he used the media and then controlled the media to ridicule his opponents and get the people on his side. The people believe what the papers etc tell them. By using this method he made the opposition parties a laughing stock to the extent where he was able to ban all the other political parties and so become a dictator.

If you watch how he did things then you'll see a clear model that was later used by Thatcher. She couldn't go the whole hog and ban the Labour party but she had managed, though the controls over the media, to ridicule them and brainwash a lot of people.

History has shown that it's a very dangerous game when you allow the media to ridicule the out of power political parties. Papers like the Daily Mail should be banned thus stopping their Tory propaganda campaigns. TV channels should also be properly unbias

To compare Thatcher to Hitler is ludicrous

Do you also think the Mirror should be banned for their Labour leanings?

Yes I realise it wasn't a great thing to compare Thatcher to Hitler and totally unfair. I do therefore apologise to Hitler and the Nazi party.

Yes I do think all papers should be impartial - both left and right wing. It's amazing how you see posts that have been influenced by something in The Sun, Mirror and more so Daily Mail.

As much as I hate the tabloid press and was over the moon to see the demise of the truly scummy NOTW, I really think people should be sensible and mature enough to take what they print with a shovel full of salt, whether it's the sun, Telegraph or the Guardian.
Unfotunatley there will always be some that believe everything they read, but that surely doesn't justify banning them. Thankfully I think the vast majoirty of people in this country aren't as thick as the sun think they are.

The People's Charter 1938:
"4. Payment of members, thus enabling an honest tradesman, working man, or other person, to serve a constituency, when taken from his business to attend to the interests of the Country."

If MPs weren't paid, only those who don't need to work could do it, i.e. the rich.

Exactly true, but also those who did not want to work. You would also get those who wanted power but lacked the skill, intelligence and work ethic to get it through hard graft, could I suggest Neil Kinnock for this part?
