Poyet Fires Noone Warning

Mon Jan 09, 2012 9:52 am

Gus Poyet has warned Cardiff City they will have to 'more than significantly up their offer' to stand any chance of signing Brighton & Hove Albion winger Craig Noone.

Sky Sports revealed over the weekend that Cardiff boss Malky Mackay had made Noone his top target and had made a bid for the wide-man.

Brighton rejected the offer, believed to be in the region of £400,000, and Poyet says his club's Championship rivals currently have 'no chance' of landing Noone.

"People said to me in December are you expecting any offers for Nooney?" said Poyet.

Going nowhere

"When you get an offer that means players are doing well and it's how you can control it, depending on the offer.

"The situation a year ago with Benno (Elliott Bennett and Norwich City) was a nightmare for 20 days, unbearable. Let's see, maybe this one is easier.

"It's totally different. At the moment it's going nowhere.

"I don't know what is going to happen but what is true right now is they've got no chance.

"Cardiff City would have to more than significantly up their offer."
