Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay says " new signings are needed for league and cup charge "
WalesOnlineJan 7 2012A
Malky Mackay has underlined that his Cardiff City squad can’t hope to continue their drive for Carling Cup success plus promotion without new signings.
“We don’t have the squad for that, it’s as simple as that,” said manager Mackay, who sends his team out against five-times FA Cup winners West Brom at the Hawthorns today.
The Bluebirds are intent on bringing in at least two new players during the January transfer window and Mackay describes that quest as ‘ongoing’.
Mackay and his player recruitment team – headed up by Iain Moody – are remaining patient and closely monitoring movement into Premier League clubs which could mean somebody else is out of a 25-man squad and available.
The key positions for City are wide in midfield, where Mackay would like to have competition for Craig Conway and Don Cowie, plus up front.
Mackay has been given the go-ahead by Malaysian investors to move for new signings, but is prepared to wait until the last day of the transfer window.
Mackay is delighted with Cardiff’s progress so far – only four defeats in 30 matches – but is still planning for the future.
“We will be strengthening over the next three windows and beyond,” he said.
“We are working to bring players in, but they have to be the right players. We have to be patient.
“We don’t have the size of squad to challenge in every competition. It’s as simple as that. But we are in these competitions. We have chosen to be in them.
“It’s important to have good staff who make sure out players recover in time and our preparation is thorough and spot on.”

Malky has said him self he has been lucky with his players that they haven't had a lot of big injury's to worry them, and that his medical staff has been working really hard to keep every oone fit.
Every workman needs tool to do there Job, with Football managers its his staff all working with the players, a bit of luck on there side, AND! The tool that he needs more anything is a Bank Balance to work with. Malky has brought out the best in the players we have, and even worked Miracles with some of them.
But in the end it still comes down to money , money to bring in new Players and Money to keep the good players we have.
I would say we have one of the best ever chances to get to the prem ,than we have ever had in a long time, with a Manager that I believe could keep us there ,should we get there. All Malky need to get us there is a few more Players and for the guys at the top to open the Bank up a little for him so he can get the tools to do his Job.![]()

If already need to be bailed out to the tune of a million a month , its quite clear that even with less players and the so called high earners gone , that the Club is spending beyond it's means.
Peter Ridsdale would be proud

Carl says in his update there is money available, yes there is but in my opinion no where near what Malky knows he needs to get the squad how he would like it. Back in September he lost players due to there not being enough money available. I stand by what I have said before, Malky needs enough money for 3 or 4 more quality players.![]()

Allardyce said: "In an ideal world, I will bring in two new players this month - a forward and a defender - because we only have five subs and we have to rotate the squad. Two quality players would be great. Maybe we will go for a wide player as well."
He added: "We have already started the process of bidding but without any success at the moment, either permanent or loan deals. "
"The co-owners Mr Sullivan and Mr Gold have pressed the button on a lot of potential deals already."
"I can't be more pleased with the way they have supported me. More goals is what we are after but we haven't managed to clinch one yet."
Sound familiar? Would we say that Sullivan and Gold are not backing Sam?
Or is it just that good players at reasonable prices are few and far between in January?
